SSC CAPF Eligibility Criteria
There is a fairly detailed eligibility criteria set by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for recruitment to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). The criteria pertain to nationality, age, and educational qualifications among others. Candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria for the CAPF examination before applying for the same.
There are various guidelines for every aspect of the eligibility criteria. The details are mentioned below:
- Nationality/ Citizenship: The candidate must be one of the following:
- An Indian citizen.
- A Nepal or Bhutan subject.
- Candidates who are Nepal or Bhutan subjects must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
- The aforementioned candidates will be allowed to write the exam but the offer of appointment will be provided only after the requisite eligibility certificate is issued to him by the Government of India.
- Age limit
- The age of the applicant must be between 20 to 25 years as on 01-01-2021 i.e. the date of birth should be between 02-01-1996 and 01-01-2001.
- The upper age limit relaxation for various categories is as follows:

- The candidate’ s date of birth in the online application form should match the one mentioned in the Matriculation/ Secondary Examination Certificate. No further request for change will be entertained.
- Candidates who belong to the category of Ex-servicemen and have employment in the civil side under the government in Group C and D posts on a regular basis after taking the benefit of reservation granted to ex-servicemen for the purpose of reemployment are ineligible to ex-servicemen reservation and fee concession. However, such candidates will be allowed to avail the relaxation as ex-servicemen for their subsequent employment, given that they provide the self-declaration/undertaking to the concerned employer about the date-wise details of applications for various vacancies for which he/ she had applied for prior to joining the initial civil employment as specified in the guidelines dated 14th August issued by DoP&T.
- The “Call up Service” period of an ex-serviceman in the Armed Forces will be considered as service offered in the Armed Forces for granting age relaxation according to the rules.
- For any service man of any of the three armed forces of the union to be considered as an ex-serviceman for the purpose of availing the benefits of reservation, candidates must have acquired the position of ex-servicemen at the time of submitting the application for the post or he must be in a position to prove his entitlement by providing the required documents from the relevant authority which should state that he would complete the specified term of engagement from the Armed Forces within stipulated period of one year from the closing date for receipt of applications (i.e. 16-07-2020). Such candidates are required to acquire the status of an ex-serviceman within the stipulated period of one year from the closing date of receipt of applications.
- A matriculate ex-serviceman (including those ex-servicemen who obtained the Indian Army Special Certificate of education or the equivalent certificate in the Navy or Air Force) who has contributed no fewer than 15 years of service as on closing date with the Armed Forces of the Union will be regarded as eligible only for appointment to the Group C posts of SI in Delhi Police against the posts reserved for ex-servicemen. Non-graduate ex-servicemen who are yet to clear 15 years of service as on the last date are not suitable for the post.
- Candidates who are sons, daughters, or dependents of ex-servicemen are not eligible for age relaxation in this category. They should not indicate ex-servicemen as their category.
- Educational Qualifications as on 01-01-2021:
- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognised university, for all the posts.
- According to the Ministry of the Human Resource Development Notification dated 10.06.2015 published in the Gazette of India all degrees/diplomas/certificates awarded via open and distance learning mode of education by the Universities set up by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature, Institutions deemed to be University as per section 3 of the University Grants Commission Acts (UGC) Act, 1956 and Institutions of National Importance declared by an Act of Parliament stand automatically recognised for the aim of employment to posts and services under the Central Government, provided they have been approved by the Distance Education Bureau, University Grants Commission (UGC). But such degrees must be recognized at the time when the candidates acquired the qualification, or they will not be accepted for the purpose of Educational Qualification.
- Further, as per the UGC (Open and Distance Learning) Regulations, 2017 published in the Official Gazette on 23-06-2017, under Part III (8) (v), the programmes in medicine, engineering, dental, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, and architecture etc. are not permissible to be offered under the Open and Distance Learning mode. However, B.Tech degree/diploma in Engineering awarded by IGNOU to candidates who were enrolled up to the academic year 2009-10 will be considered valid, wherever applicable.
- Candidates who are yet to acquire the educational qualifications and produce required documents from the Board/University in support of their claims thereof as on 01-01-2021 are eligible for the post.
- Candidates who have already been declared qualified by the commission in the Computer Based Examination, PET/PST and Medical exam are required to submit all relevant certificates in original such as provisional degree/mark sheet/diploma certificate as evidence of having obtained the minimum educational qualification on or before 01-01-2021. Candidates who fail to provide the required documents will stand to lose their candidature. Candidates who prove their educational qualification on or before the cut off date will be considered for the post. The required result needs to be declared by the relevant Board or University by the specified date. Mere processing of the result will not be considered as having met the educational qualification requirement.
- Candidates who acquire an equivalent level of education must produce documentary evidence to support their claim at the time of document verification. The final decision pertaining to selection will be made by the concerned department or appointing authorities.
- For the post of Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police only: Male candidates need to produce a valid driving licence for LMV (Motorcycle and Car) on the specified date of Physical Endurance and Measurement Tests. Candidates who don’t have a valid driving licence for LMV are suitable for all other positions in CAPF.
- Medical standard (for all posts):
- Medical examination – Candidates who qualify Paper II are required to go through the medical examination conducted by the Medical Officer of the CAPFs or any other Medical Officer or Assistant Surgeon who belong to Grade – I of any Central or State Government hospital or dispensary. Candidates who are deemed unfit will be informed and can make an appeal before the Review Medical Board within the specified time limit of 15 days. The decision of the Remedical board or Review Medical Board will be final and no further appeal against its decision will be allowed.
- Eyesight: The minimum near vision should be N6 (better eye) and N9 (worse eye). The minimum distant vision should be 6/6 for better eye and 6/9 for worse eye for both eyes without any correction such as wearing glasses or surgical intervention of any kind to enhance visual acuity. For the right-handed person, the right eye is the better eye and vice-versa.
- Candidates should not have knock knees, varicose vein, flat foot, or squint in the eyes and must possess high colour vision.
- Candidates must be in good physical and mental health and free from any bodily defects that can interfere with the performance of duty.
Applicants finally selected for the post of Sub-Inspector will have to qualify seven obstacle events that are a part of training, failing which their candidature for the post may not be considered. The seven obstacle events are as follows:
- Jumping over the Vertical Board
- Tarzan Swing
- Holding the rope on jumping from the Board
- Vertical Rope
- Parallel Rope
- Jumping on the Horizontal Board
- Monkey Crawl
Tattoo: Tattoos will be allowed as per the guidelines mentioned below:
- Content: Tattoo that depicts a religious figure or symbol and the name, as followed in the Indian Army, are permissible.
- Location: Tattoos on traditional locations such as the inner forearm but only the left forearm – being the arm that is a non-saluting limb – or dorsum of the hands are allowed.
- Size: The size of the tattoo must be less than one-fourth of the particular part (Hand or elbow) of the body.
