The Soviet Union is most commonly known as the USSR, an abbreviation for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The USSR was the first and largest communist state in the world. A social state was established by the Bolsheviks, after defeating and overthrowing the prior Russian Empire.

After the signing of the treaty, the chairman was chosen as Vladimir Lenin. On the death of Vladimir Lenin in the year 1924, Joseph Stalin became the chairman of the Soviet Union.

History
In 1924, Joseph Stalin became the chairman of the Soviet Union. Stalin played a huge role in converting the agrarian industry of the Soviet Union into an industrial and military-based economy. During these times, millions of his citizens died. In addition, the following years had a five-year plan that was primarily based on the production of military-related goods and types of equipment.
As a result of conversion to collectivization, the production of agricultural goods fell. Consequently, the Soviet Union faced a period of shortage of food. Farmers in the Soviet Union were forced to give up their holdings and join collective farms.

As a result of this act, the British Government and the United States feared that the world would soon be dominated by the principle of communism. Hence, they formed the North- Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, in 1949.

His era was denoted by several political reforms and policies, which helped in making the Soviet Union less totalitarian region. At that time, the soviet union government aimed at raising the living standard of its people tried working for the betterment and bringing injustice within the Union. However, his years were very critical as they included the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Suez Crisis of 1962 and 1956, respectively.
Fall of the Union
In the year 1991, the disintegration of the Soviet Union took place. With the increasing gap between the people and the scarcity of the basic needs of the people, it was difficult for the Soviet Union to stand together. This gap also resulted in people rejecting the former totalitarian ideology of the Soviet Union- communism.
In the 1980s, the economy of the Soviet Union faced and came across a lot of setbacks. The then US president brought in several sanctions and policies to keep the economy of the Soviet Union ideal and far away from the rest of the world. Hence, the revenue came down.
As a result of these setbacks, Mikhail Gorbachev came up with several reforms. He introduced the Foreign Direct Investments, curbing the powers and loosening the control of the government. However, the results took time and this hastened the process of dissolution. and following that in 1991, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic was dissolved.
