History of Members of Parliament

The first time a member of parliament was elected in India was on December 9, 1946 when the Constituent Assembly of India was established to create the country’s constitution. The Constituent Assembly of India was not elected based on adult suffrage. Still, it was made up of indirectly elected representatives and was not divided into the Rajya and Lok Sabha. Because they were considered minority groups, Muslims and Sikhs were given more consideration. The Indian Constituent Assembly, which drafted the country’s first constitution over two years, eleven months, and eighteen days, was completely dissolved in 1949.

The Indian constitution went into effect on January 26, 1950, and the first parliamentary elections were held in 1951-1952 under the new constitution.

The first Lok Sabha in India had 489 constituencies established on April 17, 1952, making it the country’s first elected House of Parliament. Lok Sabha is the Lower House. The Lok Sabha is not a permanent body.

That’s about $2.7 million per month for each member of Parliament, which includes pensions for the dependents of former MPs and the cost of transportation and other expenses for each member of Parliament, which is about $4,000 per month.
