A detailed note on Equality

The equality phenomenon makes sure that every individual in a country gets an equal number of opportunities irrespective of their birth, caste, gender, religion, etc.

The equality phenomenon makes sure that every individual in a country gets an equal number of opportunities irrespective of their birth, caste, gender, religion, etc. along with the model and also makes sure no individual is discriminated against from any kind of responsibility or opportunity based on any characteristics. There has been a law made on this equality model in almost all the countries of the world. It is named Right to Equality. The Right to Equality is a part of fundamental rights in India and it is present in Articles number 14 to 18 of the Indian Constitution. The Right to Equality states that everybody in the country should be treated equally before the law and no one can practice discrimination against any individual on grounds of their gender, birth, property, untouchability or so. If they do so they would be punished by the court of law very badly.

Equality is a very important part of the democracy model. All democratic countries follow the model of equality. The equality phenomenon makes sure that every individual in a country gets an equal number of opportunities irrespective of their birth, caste, gender, religion, etc along with the model and also makes sure no individual is discriminated against from any kind of responsibility or opportunity based on any characteristics. 

There has been a law made on this equality model in almost all the countries of the world. It is named Right to Equality. The Right to Equality is a part of fundamental rights in India and it is present in Articles number 14 to 18 of the Indian Constitution. The Right to Equality states that everybody in the country should be treated equally before the law and no one can practice discrimination against any individual on grounds of their gender, birth, property, untouchability or so. If they do so they would be punished by the court of law very badly. The concept of equality came as a result of Britishers practicing unfair harsh discrimination on Indians before the independence period various groups of people at various places. There have been various acts and laws introduced against gender or any kind of discrimination such as the equal pay act 1970, equality act regulation 2007. 

Equity Vs Equality 

Let’s know about equality versus equity. Though the term equality and equity sound similar it has slightly different meaning. Equality means providing equal opportunities and resources to each individual. Equity means recognizing the resources and opportunities needed by an individual or group of individuals and providing them with those resources and opportunities impartially.   An example of equality can be the government subsidies on gasses provided to all citizens equally. An example of equity can be providing reservations to lower and poor sections of society or providing reservations of seats for women in different government schools, offices, and public sector firms. 

Types Of Equality 

In the above section, all the details of equality were shown. Now let’s know about the different types of equality, they are as follows: – 

  • Natural Equality – Irrespective of the fact that men and women have different physical features in terms of body, muscularity, mental abilities, emotions, etc all humans should be treated equally and all human beings should get access to all kinds of freedom and rights. 
  • Social Equality – This type of equality says that no discrimination will be made against any individual on any grounds of gender, religion, caste, color, etc. All classes of people should be treated equally. 
  • Civil Equality – According to civil equality every individual will enjoy the same rights and freedom and everybody including political leaders should be equal before the law. 
  • Political Equality – This type of equality states that each and everybody has the right to participate in all political activities. 
  • Economic Equality – Economic Equality’s main focus is to reduce the gap between rich and poor. It stands for an equal amount of pay and opportunity should be provided for equal work. 
  • Legal Equality – The last type of equality is legal equality which states that everybody starting from a driver to a president or prime minister everybody is equal before the law.
