Like all the other states in India, the Meghalaya Government also has a governor appointed by the President. A council of ministers is appointed from Vidhan Sabha. The High Court of Shillong heads the judiciary of the Meghalaya Government. A total of 11 administrative districts fall under the government of Meghalaya.

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

Conrad Sangma is the chief minister of Meghalaya and belongs to the National People’s Party. He was born on January 27, 1978, in Tura. His father, P.A Sangma, was the former chief minister of this state.

Governor of Meghalaya

Satya Pal Malik is a well-known politician. He currently serves as the Governor of Meghalaya. He is a fit candidate for this position given his prior experience as the Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Goa.

Government of Meghalaya

The governor of Meghalaya is the head of the government of Meghalaya and 11 of its districts. Like all the other states of India, the President appointed the Governor of Meghalaya State. The Meghalaya High Court is situated in the capital of Meghalaya, Shillong. The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly consists of M.L.As elected for a period of 5 years.

Council of Ministers

The authority of every state is in the hands of the Council of Ministers of that particular state. The Chief Minister is the head of the Council of Ministers. After discussing with the Prime Minister, the President appoints the members to the Council of Ministers.

The Legislative Assembly includes the Cabinet Ministers and the other Ministers of the state of Meghalaya. Apart from the Chief Minister and the Deputy Minister, the Council of Ministers of Meghalaya has several other Ministers who are in charge of different departments like:

Classification of the Government of Meghalaya

The Government of Meghalaya is classified into three parts:

  1. The Legislature
  2. The Executive
  3. The Judiciary

All these bodies are responsible for the welfare and the security of the citizens of Meghalaya. The Legislative Assembly comprises six members in addition to the speaker and the Governor who are at the top of the legislature. Two out of 543 seats are reserved for Meghalaya in Lok Sabha. Meghalaya has two representatives from Tura and Shillong. Contrary to that, only one seat is reserved in the Rajya Sabha.
