The list of the longest bridges is as follows-

  1. Bhupen Hazarika Setu- 

Also known as the Dhola Sadiya bridge, the Bhupen Hazarika Setu is India’s longest bridge from northeast Assam to Arunachal Pradesh. It is constructed over the Lohit river. Its total length is 9.50 kilometres (30,020 feet). It lies on the coordinates 27°47’55” N 95°40’34” E. Motor vehicles usually travel on this bridge.

  1. Dibang river bridge-

The Dibang River Bridge is the second longest bridge in India. The bridge connects the area of Bomjir and Malek village. It is 6.2 kilometres long (20,300 feet). It is mainly used by the Indian Army to fight against anti-national activities and the Chinese military in the easter sector. It lies on the coordinates 28°08’47” N 95°42’11” E. It is constructed above the Dibang river. 

  1. Mahatma Gandhi Setu-

Mahatma Gandhi Setu or Gandhi Setu is the third longest bridge in India. It is 5.75km long (18,860 feet). The bridge connects Patna (south) to Haripur (north). It lies on the coordinates 25°37’19.0″ N 85°12’25.7″ E. It is constructed above the Ganges river.

  1. Bandra Worli Sea-link- 

Officially known as Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, India’s fourth-longest bridge connects Bandra, West Mumbai to Worli, South Mumbai. It is 5.6 kilometres long and is constructed above Mahim bay. Its coordinates are 19.0364°N 72.8172°E. It is an 8 lane bridge ( four lanes at each side). 

  1. Bogibeel Bridge- 

This bridge is a combination of roadways and railways. It is the longest rail cum road in India. It is 4.9 kilometres long and is situated above the Brahmaputra river, and is constructed between Dhemaji district and Dibrugarh district in Assam, India. Its coordinates are 27°24’31” N 94°45’37” E. The bridge consists of three road lanes and two railway tracks. 

  1. Vikramshila Setu- 

The Vikramshila Setu is constructed across the Ganges river. It is located near Bhagalpur, Bihar. Its coordinates are 25°16’41 “N 87°01’37” E. It is a two-lane bridge with pedestrian pathways on both sides. 

  1. Vembanad Rail Bridge- 

Vembanad Rail Bridge is not a vehicle bridge but a rail bridge. It is 4.62 kilometres long and connects two regions of Kerala: Edappally and Vallarpadam. It stands in the second position regarding the longest railway bridges in India. Its coordinates are 10.006°N 76.258°E.

  1. Digha Sonpur Bridge- 

The Digha Sonpur Bridge is also known as the JP (Jayprakash Narayan) Setu. It connects Digha ghat in Patna to Pahleja ghat in Sonpur. It is built near Ganga and is a rail cum road bridge. The bridge is 4.5 kilometres (14,948 feet) long and is the second-largest rail cum road in India after the Bogibeel bridge in Assam. Its coordinates are 25°40’05 “N 85°06’30” E

  1. Arrah Chhapra Bridge-

The Arrah Chhapra Bridge is also known as the Veer Kunwar Singh Setu. It Is an extra dose bridge. It is 1.9 kilometres long (6,300 feet). The bridge crosses the Ganga river and connects Arrah district to Chhapra in Bihar. Its coordinates are 25°43’41 “N 84°48’52” E. It is a four-lane bridge.

  1. The Godavari fourth Bridge- Also known as Kovvur Rajahmundry 4th bridge, the Godavari fourth bridge was built to reduce the distance between Chennai and Kolkata by a minimum of 150 kilometres. It connects Kovvur to Diwancheruvu Junction in Andhra Pradesh. The bridge is four-lane and its coordinates are 17°02’17 “N 81°44’47” E.

 

  1. Munger Ganga Bridge-

The Munger Ganga Bridge is officially known as Shree Krishna Setu. It is a rail cum road bridge in India. It is built across the Ganges in Bihar. It is constructed between Munger district to various districts of north Bihar. Its coordinates are 25.3984°N 86.4576°E. It is a railroad and is 3.7 kilometres long (12,300 feet).

  1. Chahlari Ghat Bridge- It is constructed across the river Ghagra and connects Bahraich to Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. It is 3.2 kilometres long (10,700 feet). 

 

  1. Joyee Setu- The Joyee bridge is about 2.7 kilometres long. It is the longest bridge in West Bengal from Haldibari to Mekhliganj. This bridge was built to reduce Haldibari and Mekhliganj from 70 kilometres to 15 kilometres. Its coordinates are 26°20’34 “N 88°52’31” E

 

  1. Kolia Bhomora Setu- Named after Ahom General Kolia Bhomora Phukan, it is a 3.9 kilometres long bridge. It is built over the Brahmaputra river, located in Tezpur, Assam. Its coordinates are 26°35’55 “N 92°51’30” E

 

  1. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Setu- 

It is built to connect Cuttack to Trishulia. It is almost 2.8 kilometres long. It is built across the river Kathajodi in Odisha. It is the longest bridge in Odisha. It is a three-lane bridge with pedestrian paths on all sides. Its coordinates are 20°27’21 “N 85°50’55” E

 

  1. Penumudi Puligadda Bridge is located on National Highway 214; it was built between Penumudi and Puligadda in Andhra Pradesh. The total cost of construction was ₹71 crore. Its coordinates are 16°2’22 “N 80°53’25 “E. 

 

  1. Pamban Bridge- It was the first sea bridge in India. The bridge is built between Mandapam and Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Its coordinates are 9°16’57.25 “N 79°12’5.91” E
