The Arjuna Award, also known as the Arjuna Awards on Outstanding Performance in Sports as well as Games, is India’s second-highest athletic prize, after the Khel Ratna Award. The prize is titled following Arjuna, a key figure in ancient India’s Sanskrit epic Mahabharata.
Arjuna is among the Pandavas, represented like a great shooter who marries Draupadi, and during the Kurukshetra War, Krishna turns their charioteer, educating them Hindu holy wisdom of the Gita. After Rama, Lakshman, then Parshurama, he is regarded as one of the finest soldiers of Vedic Era.
