Tamil Nadu is the 10th largest state of India, and its capital city Chennai is also known as the Detroit of India. 

The most famous area in Chennai  is Marina Beach. Among other the most beautiful places in Tamil Nadu, you can visit Fort St. George and Ashtalakshmi Temple. The Kodaikanal Lake, the flowing Thalaiyar Falls, and the Kukkal Caves are all popular tourist attractions in Kodaikanal.

The Famous Areas in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is rich in cultural history and has many beautiful places to visit. Tamil Nadu is popular because of its national parks, temples, hill stations, waterfalls, heritage sites, natural environment and wildlife.

  • Pondicherry: French Colony

Pondicherry, earlier recognised as Puducherry, is one of the union territories of India. The town of Puducherry is now distributed into two portions by a canal. All its avenues are parallel to each other. 

This city has vast French history and culture. This former French colony offers everything from architecture to art. Puducherry also has many picturesque towns.

  • Kotagiri

Kotagiri lies near Ooty and is also a small hill station. This place is situated above 1800 sea level. 

This town is one of the largest hill stations in Nilgiris, and it also has the largest trekking trails in the state. This place is relatively quieter than the whole town. Mountains, tea plantations, and shola forests surround Kotagiri.

  • Sirumalai

This tourist destination in Tamil Nadu is replete with forests and chirping birds. Sirumalai is a tourist place with thick woodland and sunny temperature. You also get to enjoy the panoramic view of Dindigul city, situated a few km away from Sirumalai. 

You can do river rafting and enjoy other sports in the small lake.

  • Theni

Theni is a valley town located in Tamil Nadu. It is a popular destination and is well known for its trading activities. It is a supply centre of various spices and fruits like chilli, cardamom, cotton, grapes, etc. 

Theni is famous among tourists for its dams and waterfalls.

  • Tharangambadi

This place is a small town located in Tamil Nadu. There is a famous ozone free beach in Trankebar or Solapur. King Ragunatha Nayak of Tanjore built the famous fort, which tourists can rent at just 3000 rupees. 

It is a beautiful town with scenic surroundings and beaches. Sometimes people call this town the “village of dancing waves”. Some former heritage constructions in this city have now become motels for visitors.

  • Valparai

Hills and forests surround this place. Valparai is located in the Anamalai and is 3000 m above sea level. 

Some of the tourist places in this area are – Solaiyar Dam, Balaji Temple, Koolangal Aaru, Panchamukha Vinayaka Temple, Nallamudi Poonjolai, Monkey Falls, Chinnakallar Dam, Aliyar Dam and Athirapally Falls. This place is famous for its shopping malls and cafes.

  • Chennai: The Cultural Hub

Chennai is called the artistic centre of Tamil Nadu. The place has several malls, temples, heritage monuments, art and museums. Due to this, the annual visit of tourists increases annually. 

It is one of the metropolitan towns with one of the biggest IT parks in Asia. It is also well-known for its coasts and river rafting. Chennai is famous for aerial sports like paragliding and is a trekker’s camping paradise. There are also many chapels in Chennai.

  • Ooty

Ooty is a pleasant place with nice cool weather. It is also a famous destination for young pairs. Known for its tree plantation, connoisseurs find every kind of tea leaves here from black, green, etc.

Ooty is also famous for its museums that have scriptures of various cultures. Ooty is not an ordinary Tamilians city, but it has an intermix of cultures and traditions. Locals speak Kannada, Tamil as well as the English language.

  • Coimbatore

Coimbatore, also known as Kovai, is located in the southern part and has a lot to offer visitors. This place is grand and magnificent. It is one of Coimbatore’s most famous tourist sites, with lush hills, vast ghats, and beautiful waterfalls. 

This city stands out in terms of culture, education, geography, and ethnicity.
