Andhra Pradesh Lies in the southeastern part of India. It is known for its rich culture, history and pilgrimage sites.

Andhra Pradesh is the seventh-largest state in India, located in the country’s southeastern region. Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh, and Visakhapatnam is the largest city. It is a beautiful state with many natural and historical places to explore and learn about, such as Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Araku Valley, Srisailam, Papikondalu, etc.

Natural wonders in Andhra Pradesh

The Borra Caves

The Borra caves are located in Araku Valley in the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. Willaim King George discovered this one million-year-old cave in 1807. These caves are a large tourist attraction in the state. It is naturally made of karstic limestone and is 80 m in depth; hence it is also one of the deepest caves in India. The village people who live near the Borra caves have also built a small temple outside the cave for Lord Shiva. 

Rushikonda Beach 

Rushikonda Beach is one of the best natural spots in Andhra Pradesh. This beach is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal in the Visakhapatnam district. It is widely known for its magnificent waves and golden sands. It attracts tourists and nature lovers from all across the country. People can also enjoy many sports such as water skiing, windsurfing and swimming. 

Ubbalamadugu Falls 

Ubbalamadugu Falls, also known as the Tada Falls, are located in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The waterfall is 100 m high and has crystal clear water. They are also famous for trekking, and the total trek is 10 km long.

Gandikota

Gandikota is a village that lies around the Gandikota Fort in Andhra Pradesh in the Kadapa District and is one of the most visited historical places in the state. Gandikota is a significant spot for people who love history and nature.

Lepakshi

Lepakshi is a village with a lot of history. Lepakshi is in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh and contains many beautiful ancient temples, rich culture and archaeological sites. The locals of the village believe that the Jatayu fell in Lepakshi after getting hit by Ravana, according to the legends of Ramayana. The most prominent attraction in Lepakshi is the monolithic idol of Nandi Bull.

Amaravati 

Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh, a city that lies on the banks of the river Krishna. It is well-known for the semi hemispherical structure that contains the Buddhist relic and is often referred to as the Abode of God. 

Hill Stations

Araku Valley

This valley, also known as Araku, is 120 km from Visakhapatnam and is a largely unknown hill station frequently visited by inhabitants as a weekend resort. Araku Valley is nestled among the tranquil highlands of the Eastern Ghats. It is also home to a variety of tribes. This valley has a few tribal caves and the Museum of Tribal Arts, which are worth seeing. This establishment is well-known for its delicious coffee.

Ananthagiri Hills

Ananthagiri Hills is a densely wooded area bounded by the Eastern Ghats, approximately 6 km from Vikarabad and 80 km from Hyderabad. The Musi River began its life in the Ananthagiri Hills. The Nizams hunted here, and Ananthagiri was one of their official hunting grounds. It is one of Telangana’s oldest inhabited locations, with caverns and historical structures aplenty. They’re also known for their fragrant coffee farms, which attract visitors from all over the World.

Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vaari Temple

It is a temple located in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. Sri Venkateswara Swami Vari Temple is a temple of Lord Venkateswara, who was a divine form of Lord Vishnu. His devotees believe that Lord Venkateswara appeared to save people from Kali Yuga. Some people also refer to or call this temple by other names, such as Tirupati temple or Tirupati Balaji Temple. 

It is believed that the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vaari temple was constructed in early 300 CE. Since the temple is visited by over thirty to forty million people annually and fifty thousand to a hundred thousand pilgrims daily, this temple is also known for being among the wealthiest temples in the World. 

Ahobilam

Ahobilam is a town surrounded by the Eastern Ghats in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Ahobilam is a place where Lord Narasimha is worshipped. This town is known as the central place for the worship of Lord Narasimha. There are multiple temples in the town, both lower and upper Ahobilam. It is also the place Lord Narasimha kills Hiranyakasipu and saves Prahalada. 

Annavaram

Located on the banks of the Pampa river, the temple of Lord Satyadeva lies in Annavaram, a temple town in Andhra Pradesh. The town is a pilgrimage place and is famous for the shrine of Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy.

In terms of pilgrimage, Annavaram Temple is second only to Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh as one of the most visited holy locations in the country. The Satyanarayana Swamy Temple in Annavaram was built in the Dravidian style. Lord Satyadeva, the temple’s deity, is praised in the Revakhanda of the Holy Skanda Puranam for his wealth and glory.
