Africa is the second-largest continent in the world. The area of Africa is 30.37 million square kilometres, and the populations of African countries amount to approximately 1.37 billion. The African continent has the most number of countries. There are 54 African countries on the continent. Algeria is the largest African country and Seychelles is the smallest African country.

These 54 African countries have different capitals and currencies, according to their locations and needs. In the African continent, Libyan Dinar is the strongest currency.

Capital and Currency

Capital and currency are the two most important things insofar as governance is concerned. One is important for the operational purpose of a government while the other is important for the economy of a country.

  1. Capital – The capital of a country is the city in which the government of that country is headquartered. The capital is the place from where the government rules the country.
  2. Currency – Currency is the medium through which payments are made or received against exchange of goods or services. The currency of two countries may or may not be the same. There are 180 recognized currencies at present.

Africa and African Countries

Africa is the most populated continent in the world after Asia. The total population of African countries is approximately 1.37 billion, which is 16.72% of the world’s population.It is also the second-largest continent in the world. The area of this continent is 30.37 million square km, approximately 20% of the total land area of Earth.

In the African continent, there are 54 countries which have different capitals. These countries also have their own currencies. For example, Nigeria’s currency is the Nigerian Naira.

Nigerian Naira

Nigerian Naira is the currency of Nigeria. There are 100 kobos in one Nigerian Naira just like there are 100 cents in 1 US Dollar. The value of one Nigerian Naira is equal to 0.0024 US dollars. 

In 1972, the value of one Nigerian Naira was 1.5197 US Dollars. Due to the regression and failed policies of the Nigerian government, the value of Naira fell continually after 1972.

Capital Of South Africa

South Africa is also known as the Republic of South Africa, which is the southernmost Africa.

The special thing about this African country is that it has three different capitals for three different purposes. 

The first one is Pretoria, the second one is Cape Town and the third one is Bloemfontein. The purposes of these capitals are listed below.

  1. Pretoria – It is the administrative and executive capital of South Africa.
  2. Cape Town – Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa, where the legislative Assembly of this country is situated.
  3. Bloemfontein – Bloemfontein is the judicial capital of the Republic of South Africa.
