A Quick Note on Andhra Pradesh Geographical Map Separation of Telangana State

The state of Andhra Pradesh had to lose a part of it, which led to the formation of Telangana. Much political chaos was created, and the demand for Telangana was on the lips of many renowned politicians. People committed suicide in the name of a free and separate state of Telangana. Some even were adamant about their fast-till death to fulfill their demands for an independent state.

Their tireless efforts came to fruition on June 2, 2014, when finally Telangana was separated from the state of Andhra Pradesh and was declared the 29th state of India. Let us learn more about it with a quick note on Andhra Pradesh’s geographical map separating Telangana state.

The History of Andhra Pradesh and Its Natives

The Ancient Indian scriptures speak of the ”Andhras” to be the native people of the Indian mountain ranges. The first and the most significant traces of the history of the Andhras date back to the Mauryan Age, which existed between the 4th and the 2nd century BCE.

The Mauryan Ruler Ashoka, considered one of the strongest Mauryan rulers, sent Buddhist missions to Andhras who lived in the south. After the Mauryan dynasty collapsed due to the murder of Brihadratha (the last Mauryan ruler) by Pushyamitra Shunga (founder of the Shunga dynasty), the Mauryan Empire deteriorated, and Satvahanas came into power in the south.

The Andhras, from then on, prospered in every possible field and witnessed the rule of several strong rulers in the Vijaynagar kingdom. The native language of the Andhras was Telugu, and they translated many Sanskrit works like Mahabharata into Telugu.

How did the Demand for a Separate Province from Andhra Pradesh Come into Existence?

The Andhras greatly excelled in the linguistic and cultural fields. Their art and other works were hailed as one of the finest and quite distinctive. A peaceful movement to unite the Telugu-speaking population was gaining momentum from the time of British rule. After India’s independence in 1947, the regions stayed linguistically and administratively segregated.

During the year 1950, the southern and eastern regions of Andhra were aggregated to form a Madras state. The Telangana region thus became a part of the Hyderabad state.

Their excellence in arts and cultural fields made them consider themselves so highly that they were adamant in demanding a separate state for themselves, and they are flourishing. They wanted an individual identity and their works to be individually considered. Thus, the demand for a province separated from Andhra Pradesh came into being.

The Prominent Figures in Support of the Movement

The demand for Telangana was supported by many renowned politicians, who supported the movement with all their vigor. Osmania University was the epicenter of the activist movements, which gave birth to the spark of the entire thing and outreached the very people of the south (Primarily the Telugus).

A local government leader, Potti Sreeramulu, was so adamant about getting his demand for a separate province approved and fulfilled that he fasted-till-death and stood with the masses who protested for the same. His hunger strike lasted for 58 days when he, at last, left this world for his heavenly abode during this process on December 15, 1952.

The students of Osmania University played an important role and further strengthened the movement with their perpetual protests and hunger strikes. The endless efforts and protests came to fruition on June 2 2014, when the 29th state of India, Telangana, came into existence.

The Administrative Chaos

The roots of the Telangana struggle started growing in 1955 when the State Reorganisation Commission’s request and proposal of calling Hyderabad a separate state had gone in vain. The people of Andhra were accused of colonizing the region by the Telangana political leaders. Telangana was then merged with Andhra on November 1, 1956. A united state of Telugu people was created.

Soon, the protests began around 1969 to separate Telangana from Andhra Pradesh and were supported by many political leaders and student activists. After constant protests and efforts, finally, Telangana came into existence on June 2, 2014.

The Current Situation of Both the States and Their Capitals

Andhra Pradesh is one of the most flourished states of India. It has a large piece of land on its premises, and the capital of Andhra Pradesh is Amravati. The largest city in Andhra Pradesh is Vishakhapatnam. A population of around 49 million people resides there.

After being separated from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana state has dramatically excelled in every possible field. It has a large population of Telugu-speaking people. The central city of Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana. Besides being the capital, it is the largest city in the state of Telangana. The border between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana segregates the two states.

Conclusion

This was a quick note on Andhra Pradesh’s geographical map separating Telangana state. The Indian states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh used to be a single mass of land once. The Telugu masses demanded a separate state for themselves, and this demand was supported by a large crowd, including several renowned leaders. After years of struggle and constant protests, which were intermittently opposed by the administrative bodies, Telangana was segregated from Andhra Pradesh and declared an independent state.
