Who is the Current Defence Minister of India?
The Minister of Defence (Raksha Mantri) is India’s highest-ranking minister as well as the head of the Ministry of Defence. The Defence Minister is a high-ranking minister in the Union Cabinet and one of the most senior posts in the Union Council of Ministers.
- Rajnath Singh (born July 10, 1951) is an Indian politician who now serves as the country’s Defence Minister. He is presently the House Lok Sabha’s Deputy Leader. He formerly served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
- He previously served in the Vajpayee government as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and as a Cabinet Minister. In the first Modi government, he served as the Home Minister. He has also served as the BJP’s President twice, from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2014.
- He has served in the Lok Sabha twice, once from Lucknow and once from Ghaziabad. He was also involved in state politics, serving as Chief Minister and MLA from Haidergarh (assembly seat) twice.
