Answer: India consists of 28 states and 8 Union territories with around 1,404,643,348 population-based on Worldometer elaboration. Among the 28 states, Sikkim is the least populated Indian state, with around 6,07,688 of the population in its total area. The state of Sikkim is situated in northeast India on the border of Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet. The literacy rate of Sikkim is 81.42% of the total population in the region. The state is home to alpine meadows, glaciers, and thousands of wildflowers. Sikkim has a dramatic landscape that includes the country’s highest mountain, i.e., Kanchenjunga, which covers 35% area of the state. It is not only the least populated state but also the second smallest state in the country, with 7046 km2 of area. Gangtok is the capital and largest city of the state. The state’s economic system mainly depends upon tourism and agriculture, having the third-smallest GDP among all other states of India. 

Uttar Pradesh is a largely populated Indian state among all others. It is divided into 18 divisions consisting of 75 districts. Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh, covering around 240,928 km of the area, which is equivalent to 7.34% of the total area in the country. The border of Uttar Pradesh is shared with Madhya Pradesh on the way to the south and Bihar towards the east and also connects with the states of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, along with a catholic border with Nepal on the north side. Uttar Pradesh has more metropolitan cities in contrast with other Indian states. It is the most populous state in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Bihar.
