Question 1 What is the capital of Jammu Kashmir? 

Answer- Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu Kashmir and Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir. Srinagar is located along the banks of Jhelum River in the Valley of Kashmir.

Srinagar is the capital of Jammu Kashmir in the summer months of May to October and Jammu is the capital of Jammu & Kashmir in the winter months from November to April. 

The Dogra King started this practice of having two capitals for Jammu Kashmir about a hundred years ago. He saw this practice as a solution to avoid harsh winters of Srinagar. 

The city of Srinagar is located in the middle of the populated areas of Jammu Kashmir that made it the perfect choice for carrying out all the politics and strategic decisions for the state. But during the winter months, the city becomes tough to access due to blockage of highways from landslides. 

Therefore, every year the capital of Jammu Kashmir is shifted to Jammu so that the business and trade of the state remains unaffected due to these challenges.

The city of Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu Kashmir. It is the largest city in the district of Jammu. It is also known as the city of temples and is also adorned with Hindu shrines. The city is also the most visited place in the state of Jammu Kashmir. It shares borders with the district of Samba.
