What is the Capital of Australia?

Answer: Canberra is the federal capital city of Australia. The largest inland city and the eighth-largest city overall, Canberra is an entirely planned city. This city is located in the northern part of the Australian Capital Territory at the Australian Alps, the northern tip of the nation’s highest mountain range. The part of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is occupied by Canberra and is around 150 miles (240 km) southwest of Sydney. The city is located along the Molonglo River, a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River.

Now that Canberra lies on a plain at the foot of 6,200-foot spurs of the Australian Alps, the city is known to be enjoying warm summers and cool winters and also receiving less rainfall compared to the surrounding highlands. In recent years, it has been seen that the city is expanding and also the population here is growing steadily. The population in this capital city is estimated at around 431,400.

Canberra has been ranked one of the best cities to live, work, and visit in the entire world. Although the Commonwealth Government is the largest single employer in this city, currently it is not the majority employer. Many other major industries have been established and developed here which majorly contribute to employing the citizens. The industries include healthcare, education, retail, professional services, construction, food, and travel. The rate of unemployment in Canberra is much lower compared to the average unemployment rate in the nation.

Additionally, the average income and tertiary education levels are considerably higher than the entire country. The population in this city is younger. According to the 2016 Census reports, around 32% of Canberra’s inhabitants here have been born overseas. The design of this city is influenced by the garden city movement and thus, natural vegetation is incorporated in the significant areas.
