  •

In the air-breathing vertebrates of the respiratory system, these two large organs, lungs, are located in the cavity of the chest or as it has been called the thorax. It works as the centre of the breathing system operating the entire body oxygen parameter. Due to certain reasons, among the Indian population, there is an emerging concern with the Lungs and their function. Hence, the following discussion has been made by specifying the perspective of Lungs in India and its current issues.

The function of Lungs

The main function of the Lungs is to operate the process of respiration, to be more precise, the breathing system of the human body. The gross function is provided with the structure of the human gas exchange system. While generating this respiratory system, oxygen is supposed to be flown entering through the blood and as the waste gas of metabolism carbon dioxide is supposed to be leaving the blood. Hence, the original function of the Lungs is to circulate fresh air throughout the body by removing waste gases.

The symptoms of unhealthy Lungs

Symptoms of having unhealthy lungs in humans are presented below:

  • Having trouble while breathing due to lack of air supply through the respiratory system
  • Decreased ability of physical movement
  • Continuous coughing, even in some cases, coughing up mucus or blood

Gross anatomy of Lungs

This system contains two pairs of Lungs interspersal locations of the thoracic cavity. Each set of Lungs is covered with pleura and protected by the thoracic skeleton. Each of them has habits which is an extensive base of the inferior surface with both sharp anterior and inferior borders. Comparatively, the right lung is smaller than the left one for having the right lobe of the liver being pushed over the right lung. The right lung has three lobes, whereas the left lung has two. While the left lung is provided with one oblique fissure, the right lung has two, horizontal fissures and oblique.

The major concern with Lungs in India

COPD has been reflected as India’s topmost crisis caused by lung infection, along with lung cancer. The country is struggling with burning coal, cow dung, which is a major concern in toxifying the air. This is a major issue of being the dangerous factor of slowly killing humankind all through the decades. The number of cases with lung issues has increased by 3.3% to 4.2% with 55.3 million in 2016. Hence, the reality has been highly emerging among the Indian Population both in urban and rural areas configuring the high rise in the death toll in terms of lung cancer and lung infection cases.

Lung cancer in India

Among all other cancers, lung cancer has been taking out 5.9 % to 8.1 % of lives every year in India. As demographic variables, lung cancer is estimated by 98,278 among the Indian population. In recent cases, there is a high rise of lung cancer among non-smokers 30- 40%. Since the outdoor population is extremely contaminated, robust data has been identified that it has been specifically targeting 88% of women who have never smoked as compared to the 41% of men.

Lung infection in India

The National Health profile has reported that India has been accounted for 69% of morbidity in terms of lung infection as of 2018.  In the regions, such as; Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Tamil Nādu, A large number of people are being admitted Due to acute respiratory infections such as lung infection causing the fertility rates high. The polluted air has been identified to be triggering the bronchial tubes and Lungs causing chronic respiratory illness, such as; asthma wheezing, lung infection, chronic bronchitis, heart disease, emphysema, and more.

Conclusion

With the overall discussion, it can be e identify that the lung issue corresponds with the overall respiratory system of the human body that eventually leaves out the fundamental factor of a death rate. In the context of India, a major factor has been identified as air pollution, tobacco consumption, household burning coal, and such triggering the high rise of fertility rates. In this context, along with other lung issues, lung infection and Lung cancer with COPD is the most chronic disease among the Indian population. Therefore, it has been able to identify that the Lungs are an essential as well as a crucial component of the human body that can disrupt the entire function in case not comprehended properly.
