The Judiciary exam is a competitive examination conducted to recruit candidates for judicial services in the country. It assesses candidates’ knowledge of various legal aspects, including constitutional law, civil law, criminal law, and procedural laws. The exam plays a crucial role in selecting qualified individuals to serve as judges in the judiciary system. 

To appear in judicial service examination one must possess some of the qualifications. The following are the qualifications are same for all the states:

1.  The person should be a citizen of India. 
2.  Must have an LLB/LLM degree. However, it is not mandatory to have an LLM degree to apply for the judge exam. 
3. LLB degree from a recognized University in India.
4. You must be enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocates Act 1961 with membership in the state Bar Council.

Madhya Pradesh Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

Age Limit should be 21 years to 35 years

Latest update: Governor Mangubhai C. Patel made amendments to the 1994 Judicial Service (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules on June 23, 2023. These amendments, found in the newly introduced Rule 7, establish new eligibility criteria for applicants to the MPCJ (Madhya Pradesh Civil Judge) position.

Bihar Judicial Services Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

The lower age limit is 22 years, and the upper age limit is 35 years.

Qualifying Marks – For the Preliminary Examination, the minimum qualifying marks will be 45% for the general category candidates and 40% for the reserved category candidates.

Other Criteria – You need a legitimate character certificate from the LLB institute.

Rajasthan Judiciary Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

The minimum age is 21 years and the upper age limit is 40 years.

Qualifying Marks – To qualify for the main exam, you must score a minimum of 45% marks in the preliminary examination if you belong to the general category and 40% marks for SC/ST category candidates.

Haryana Civil Judge Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

Age Limit – The minimum age limit is 21 years, while the maximum is 42 years.

Delhi Judiciary Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023 

The upper age limit is 32 years and the minimum age limit is 21 years.

Other Criteria: Candidates must either practice as advocates in India or satisfy the eligibility criteria for becoming an advocate as per the provisions of the Advocates Act, 1961

UP Judiciary Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

Minimum age should be 22 years to apply for the exam, and the upper age limit is 35 years.

Knowledge of Language – You must thoroughly know Hindi in Devnagri Script to apply for the UP Judicial Services Recruitment. 

West Bengal Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

The minimum age is 23 years and the maximum age limit is 35 years.

Age Relaxation – Upper age limit is relaxable by five years for SC and ST categories, three years for the BC (Non-Creamy Layer) category, up to 45 years of age for persons with disabilities having physical disabilities of 40% and above, and two years for persons who have been in Government service for at least two years.

Educational Qualification – Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required if your mother tongue is Nepali)

Chhattisgarh Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

The minimum age to apply for the Civil Judge post is 21 years and  the maximum age limit is 35 years.

Age Relaxation: Upper age limit is relaxable by five years for SC and ST category of Chattisgarh, three years for Temporary/ Permanent Workers of Chattisgarh, and ten years for Women (SC/ ST/ OBC/ Unreserved).

Educational Qualification: You need a valid LLB degree from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India.

Karnataka Judiciary Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

Direct Recruitment

SC or ST category should not exceed 43 years of age as of March 26 2023, which is 40 years for the general category.

Age Relaxation – 03 years of age relaxation is provided for the veteran’s category.

Recruitment of In-Service Category: SC or ST category should not exceed 38 years of age as of March 26 2023. The general category must not have completed 35 years of age.

Educational Qualification – You can apply for the exam if you have experience working in the High Court and District Judiciary. Those working in the Department of Prosecutions and government litigation as assistant public prosecutors cum additional government pleaders can also apply.

Telangana Eligibility for Judiciary Exam 2023

1. A) Direct Recruitment

Age Limit – You must have attained the age of 23 years and not have completed the age of 26 as of July 1 (i.e. as of 01.07.2023).

Educational Qualification – You must possess a Degree in Law from a University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a State Act, or an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission and enrolled in the Bar Council of Telangana or in the Bar Council of any other State.

Age Relaxation – The upper age limit is relaxable by five years (up to 40 years) for SC, ST, and Backward classes. The upper age limit is relaxable by ten years (up to 45 years) for the Physically Handicapped category.

Experience – You must have been practising as an Advocate or Pleader in any Court for not less than three years.

2. B) Recruitment by Transfer

Educational Qualification – You must hold a Degree in Law awarded by any University established by Law in India or incorporated by or under a Central Act or a State Act, or an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission and which is valid for enrollment as an Advocate as per the Rules of the Bar Council of India.

Age Limit – You should not have completed forty-eight years of age as of the 1st day of July of the year in which the Notification for selection to the post is made.

Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

The minimum age limit is 22 years and the maximum is 35 years.

Age Relaxation – The upper age limit is relaxable by 03 years for the SC & OBC category of Himachal Pradesh.

Odisha Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

Language – You should be able to read, write and speak Odia and also  should have passed an exam in the Odia language that must be equivalent to the Middle English School standard (Class VII).

Age Limit – The minimum age should be 23 years, and the maximum period should not exceed 35 years.

Age Relaxation – The maximum age limit for the reserved category is relaxed by five years.

Tamil Nadu Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

Language – You must have proficiency in Tamil to read, write, and speak.

For Practicing Advocates/ Pleaders and Assistant Public Prosecutors: Age Limit for Judge Exam- For General Category, the minimum age is 25 years, and the maximum period is 35 years. For other categories, the minimum age is 25 years, and the maximum is 40 years. 

For Fresh Law Graduates(For all Categories): Age Limit: The minimum age is 22 years, while the maximum is 27 years.

Gujarat Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

Permanent domicile in Gujarat to take the reservation benefits.

The maximum age limit to apply for the exam is 35 years.

Age Relaxation – If you belong to the reserved category, you will be offered three years of relaxation at the upper age as per the rule. The age relaxation will be five years for the employees working in the courts.

You must have a basic knowledge of Computer Applications from a government institute or any other recognized institute.

Andhra Pradesh Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023

Age Limit – The maximum age limit to apply for the exam is 35 years.

Age Relaxation – You will be given five years of age relaxation if you belong to scheduled castes, tribes, and other backward classes. And ten years for the physically handicapped category.

Experience – In the case of direct recruitment, you must have completed three years as a practising advocate

Uttarakhand Judiciary Exam Eligibility 2023 

Judiciary Exam Age Limit – The minimum age limit is 22 years, and the maximum age limit is 36 years.

Other Eligibility Criteria – You must have a thorough knowledge of Hindi in the Devanagari script and a basic understanding of computer operation.

Punjab Judiciary Exam Eligibility 

The lower age limit and the upper age limit of the candidate is 21 and 37 years as of the last submission date of the application form. 

The upper age limit for all the Central/States Government employees is extended to 45 years of age.

The upper age limit for the candidates applying under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes of all States and Backward Classes only of Punjab is relaxed till 42 years.

The upper age limit for Physically Handicapped persons who have Punjab Domicile is extended up to 47 years.

The upper age limit for Divorced women, widows and other specific categories of women is relaxed until 42 years.

Lower Judiciary Exam Eligibility

For Lower Judiciary Services, candidates need an LL.B degree and must be enrolled or eligible to be enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocates’ Act 1961. No experience is required, and final year candidates can also apply. The age limit varies by state, typically ranging from 21 to 35 years.

Higher Judiciary Exam Eligibility

For Higher Judiciary Services, candidates must have a law degree and a minimum of seven years of litigating practice. Graduation in law is mandatory for eligibility.
