Rectangular Pyramid

A rectangular pyramid is a three-dimensional object with a rectangle for a base and a triangle face on each side of the base. The sides of a triangle that do not have a rectangular basis and intersect at the vertex or apex are called lateral faces.

Pyramids are three-dimensional buildings having triangle faces and a foundation that is shaped like a polygon. The pyramid is called a rectangular pyramid when the bottom of the pyramid is rectangular.

The base of a rectangular pyramid is rectangular, but the sides are shaped like triangles. A pyramid typically has three triangle sides, but varied bases, such as a square or hexagonal pyramid. The base, face, edges, and vertices are the features that distinguish all of these pyramids. The features and formulas of a rectangular pyramid are unique.

Rectangular pyramid meaning

A rectangular pyramid is a three-dimensional object with a rectangle-shaped base and triangle-shaped faces or sides that correspond to the base’s four sides. A rectangular pyramid, like other types of pyramids, has a point on top of the base that is connected together by bringing the tops of all the sides together, which is known as the apex. A rectangular pyramid has five faces, five vertices, and eight edges and is classified as either a right or an oblique pyramid.

Parts of the Rectangular pyramid

  • Faces:  A rectangular pyramid has a total of five faces. The shape of one of these faces is rectangular, while the other four are triangular. The triangular faces of this rectangular pyramid are all identical to their opposite triangular faces.
  • Vertex: In a rectangular pyramid, there are five vertices. The points where the edges meet or intersect are known as vertices. The place where the pyramid’s triangle faces meet is one of the vertices, which is located at the top, directly above the base. The rectangular-shaped base’s four remaining vertices are positioned in the four corners.
  • Edges: A rectangular pyramid has a total of eight edges. An edge is generated when two faces or surfaces meet. Four of the eight edges are positioned at the rectangular base, while the other four. The pyramid’s vertex, or highest point, is formed by slopes that run directly above the rectangle base.

Types of Rectangular pyramid

Right rectangular pyramid: When the peak of a rectangular pyramid is directly above the base’s centre, it forms a perpendicular to the base, showing the pyramid’s height. The right rectangular pyramid is the most common variety of rectangular pyramid. We commonly refer to the right rectangular pyramid when we talk about a rectangular pyramid.

Oblique rectangular pyramid: The apex of a rectangular pyramid is referred to as an oblique rectangular pyramid when it is not immediately above the centre of the base. The pyramid looks to be tilted in this case. Height is measured from the perpendicular sketched apex to the pyramid’s base in the case of an oblique rectangular pyramid.

Rectangular pyramid properties

Due to its properties, a rectangular pyramid has a one-of-a-kind shape. Let’s have a look at them:

  • 5 faces, 5 vertices, and eight edges make up a rectangular pyramid.
  • One face has a rectangle basis, while the remaining four have a triangle shape.
  • All of the triangle faces are congruent with the opposite face.
  • At the top, which is directly above the pyramid’s base, one of the vertices crosses.
  • The intersection point between the base and the side is the vertex, and the intersection point at the base is the four edges.
  • The slope is made by four edges formed above the pyramid’s base. The other four borders are at the bottom.

Rectangular pyramid formula

The formula for calculating the volume or capacity of a rectangular pyramid is:

V= abH/3

Where,

a = length of the rectangle base,

b = width of the rectangular base,

H = height of the pyramid.

The formula for calculating the pyramid’s surface area is:

Ans. A rectangular pyramid is a three-dimensional object with a rectangle for a base and a triangle face on each side of the base.

Ans. According to Word Net Web, a rectangular pyramid has eight edges, or sharp sides, “produced by the intersection of two different surfaces The top vertex of the pyramid has four sides that form an upward slope, but the rectangular base has only two 4 edges.

Ans. The rectangular pyramid is divided into two types:

  1. Right Rectangular Pyramid: A right rectangular pyramid is one in which the apex of the rectangular pyramid is situated directly above the centre of the base.
  2. Oblique Rectangular Pyramid: An oblique rectangular pyramid is one in which the peak of the rectangular pyramid is not placed directly above the centre of the base.

Ans. A rectangular pyramid is a three-dimensional object with a rectangle for a base and a triangle face on each side of the base. The lateral faces of a triangle are the sides that do not have a rectangular basis and meet at the vertex or apex. Right pyramids are usually explored.
