Do you know what length is?

The quantity which is used to measure the size of any object is known as length.

So, length is used to measure the objects, so the next question that comes to your mind is how we will measure the length?

We have different units to measure the length of any object. Meter is the SI unit of length. In the CGS system, we have centimeters as units of length and in the FPS system, we have Feet as units of length. Millimeter, Kilometer, Yard, etc. are the other units for measuring length.

Before studying the conversion of cm to feet, it is necessary to understand why unit conversion is necessary?

Why is Unit Conversion important?

We do conversion of a unit because it increases accuracy in measurement and decreases mistakes in measurements.

Because the use of length units also depends on different places. Like if you measure the distance between two cities, it will measure in kilometers, but if you measure the length of a needle, then you will have to measure it in millimeters.

That’s why Unit conversion is important.

Centimeter

One-hundredth part of the meter is known as Centimeter.

⇒1m=100 cm

1100m=1cm

As a meter is an SI unit, so we can say, a centimeter is an “SI unit” based or “derived unit”.

In countries like the USA, Centimeters is a highly used unit. A centimeter is denoted as cm.

Feet

This is not based on an SI unit, that’s why it is called Non-SI-based unit. Feet is the plural of the foot.

Feet is approximately one-third of the meter.

Feet are mostly used to measure elevation or altitude in countries like the United States, Canada, Feet is widely used in daily life.

How to Convert cm to feet?

As we know,

1m=100 cm         ——— [1]

 1foot=0.3048 m

⇒1m= 10.348 feet

1m= 3.28084 feet    ——–[2]

On equalize equation 1 and 2,

100cm=3.28084 feet

Divide by 100 on both sides,

1cm= 3.28084100 feet

1cm= 0.0328084 feet

1 foot=30.47999=30.48 cm

Example-

Ques – Convert 12.48 feet into cm.

Ans –  We know that,  1 foot=30.48 cm

if we Multiply by 12.48 both side then we get,

⇒12.48 feet= 12.48 × 30.48 cm

Then,

 12.48 feet = 380.39 cm

Easy way to calculate cm to feet:-

  • If you want to convert feet into cm, then easily you can multiply the given number by 30.48 and the number will be converted to cm.

Example,

Ques – Convert 23 feet to cm.

Ans-  23 feet = 23 × 30.48 cm

= 701.04 cm

  • If you want to convert cm into feet, then you can multiply by 0.0328084 to the given number, and the number will convert to feet.

Example,

Ques – Convert 1500 cm to feet.

Ans- 1500 cm = 1500 × 0.0328084 feet

= 49.21 feet

Conversion of centimeters into feet and inches?

  • To convert cm into inches, you can divide that number by 2.54.

  • Now, we have to convert the number (in inches) to feet, by dividing by 12.

  • Take the product of 12 and length in feet obtained in the above step

  • Subtract the values obtained in step 4th and step 1st.

  • Now, you have the value of length in feet and inches.

Example,

Convert 100 cm into feet and inches.

  • Divide by 2.54

100 / 2.54 = 39.37007

  • Divide 39.37007 by 12

  39.37007 / 12 = 3 feet

  • Multiply 12 by 3 feet

  • And, subtract from 39.37007 inches

39.37007 – (12 × 3) = 3.7007 inches

  • Then the value in feet and inches is

100 cm = 3 ft 3.7007 inches

Conclusion

Conversion of units is a very important part not only for studies but in daily life as well. We have studied inter conversion of centimeters and feet and examples based on their conversion, but similarly, we have many different units of length and we can also interconvert them to each other. cm that is Centimeters and feet both are units for measuring length.  We can measure the length in different units, cm and feet are from them themselves. Both units are interchangeable. Here, we have learnt how we can interconvert these two units.
