Integers Formula

An integer is a number without decimal places or fractions. The word “integer” has been derived from the Latin word “integer”, meaning “whole”.

The formulas which are used while doing the calculation or where the use of integers is present then that formula is called the integers formula. there are different formulas for different operations of integers such as submission of two integers or the subtraction of two integers or the multiplication as well as the division of two integers so the formula for each perspective are mentioned below:

For the addition and subtraction of integers

  • While adding integers having the same sign the basic rule is to sum their total while using the same sign to get the correct answer
  • While adding an integer having a different sign the rule is to subtract the smaller value from the bigger value and at the end put the sign of the bigger number for getting the correct answer
  • While subtracting the integers having the same sign the rule is to do the subtraction and put the same sign for getting the correct answer
  • (+) + (-) = –
  • (+) + (+) = +
  • (+) + (-) = +
  • (-) + (-) = –

For the multiplication and division of integers

The two rule that is always followed are:

  • The multiplication/division of integers having the same sign always comes positive
  • The multiplication/division of integers having different sign always comes negative
    • (+) × (+) = +
    • (-) ÷ (-) = +
    • (+) ÷ (+) = +
    • (-) × (-) = +
    • (-) × (+) = –
    • (-) ÷ (+) = –
    • (+) ÷ (-) = –
    • (+) × (-) = –

Solved examples

Question 1: Calculate the following integers: a) 15 + (-4)

Solution:

  1. For the first question, the signs of the integers are different from each other so we will use the rules that were stated above and as a result

15 + (-4) = 15-4

So the answer is 11

Question 2: Calculate the following integers 32 × -2

Solution:

  1.  For the second question, the answer will have a negative sign. since as we know that in the case of multiplication if the sign of two integers is not the same then the value will have a negative value only

So, 32 × -2 = -64
