Average Formula
The arithmetic mean is the ratio of the amount of all provided data to the total sum of samples, which is the average formula.
Definition
The statistics average termed Mean is a concept we used to hear in statistics and mathematicians. Average is a highly significant concept in statistics; if you want to get the centre value from a set of data, you may use the average function. We can also simply find the average or mean in Excel, depending on our needs. An average is a statistical concept that can be defined as a single number taken as typical of the given list. Many researchers employ an average when doing research.
Average Formula
Average = (Sum of Observations) ÷ (Total Numbers of Observations)
Average Formula
Average Formula = Sum of all the observations/Total number of observations
= (a1 + a2 + a3 +…+ an)/n
a1, a2, a3,…, an = observations
n=Number of observations
Examples
Example 1: Marks obtained by 10 students in a class test are 15, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 17, 13, 14, 20. What are the average marks received by the students?
Solution: In order to find the average of we need to first calculate the sum total of all the marks = 166
Then using the average formula to find out the average of the marks given = 166/10
Average = 16.6 marks
Example 2: The weight of students in a class are (56, 57, 58, 59, 55, 54, 60, 53) lbs. Calculate the average weight of the class using the average weight formula.
Solution: In order to find out the average weight of the class first we need to find the sum total of weight of all the students = 452lbs
Average = Sum total of weight/number of students
Average = 452/8
Average = 56.5lbs (Answer).
