The temperate needle - leaf or coniferous forests contain economically valuable gymnosperms, like the pine (Pinus wallichiana), deodar (Cedrus deodara), cypress (Cupressus torulosa), spruce (Picea smithiana) and silver fir (Abies pindrow)


  5. Coniferous forests are taller (30-35m) and possess evergreen canopy of long niggle like leaves. In different species, needle leaves may persist on the canopy for 2-7 years, therefore the canopy always remains green. In many species, the canopy is cone shaped


  6. Famous Grasslands of the World Temperate grasslands are far from the equator and usually have hot summers and cold winters. Grasslands are areas where the vegetation is dominated by grasses (Poaceae), however, sedge (Cyperaceae) and rush Juncaceae) families can also be found. Temperate grasslands, savan nas, and shrublands are terrestrial biomes whose predominant vegetation consis ts of grass and/or shrubs. Grasslands occur naturally on all continents The climate is temperate and ranges from semi-arid to semi- humid. except Antarctica. . Tropical grasslands are closest to the equator and remain hot all over the year. Grasslands are referred to by different names in different parts of the world.
