Islands An island is a body of land surrounded by water. Many islands are quite small, covering less than half a hectare (one acre) eSs Because of isolation, many islands have been home to world's most unusual and fascinating wildlife.
Types of Islands Continental Islands: These islands were once connected to the mainland and are now detached from it Some islands are formed because of continental movement..tail end continental movement..tail end armed because of island e.g: Madagascar, Green land e.g.: Madagascar, Green land Separation could be subsidence of some part of land or sea level rise submerging lower areas
Types of Islands Oceanic Islands: Small islands located in the middle of an ocean # No connection with the mainland a Formed by eruptions of volcanoes on the ocean floor. Many of these are topmost cones of volcanoes Many of these are topmost cones of volcanoes e.g.: Japan, Philippines
