Joint State Public Service Commission

• Section 315-323 of Part XIV of the Constitution of India provides for the creation of a Public Service Commission for the Union of India and one for each state. Members of the joint Public Service Commission are governed by the same set of Articles (315 to 323 in Part XIV of the Constitution), which also govern the composition, appointment, and removal of members as well as the power and functions of a Public Service Commission and its independence from the executive branch. In addition, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is responsible for administering examinations for recruitment to the “All India Services” (AIS) and the “Higher Central Services” (HCS) and advising the President on disciplinary cases.

Joint State Public Service Commission in India

The Joint State Public Service Commission was legally established. It is not a constitutional body. Punjab and Haryana shared a joint public service commission for a short period of time following the 1966 split of Punjab and Haryana.

• It is possible that they will be fired or suspended as a result of their position. They have the option to submit their resignation papers to the president at any moment. Each member is appointed by the president, who also determines the terms of their employment with the commission.

• Upon the request of a state governor, the UPSC is authorized to provide services to that state with the agreement of the federal government.

• In accordance with the Government of India Act, which established the commission, the joint Public Service Commission was formed in 1926. It was established by the Government of India Act of 1935 for provinces that shared their border with another province or state
