Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police service (IPS), and IFoS are the three main segments of All-India services. The main feature of All-India services is that the candidates have been recruited in the grade A post by the Union Government. Though, the posting of the candidates is placed under different state governments. The AIS was introduced by the Britishers in India. The recruitment process was controlled then by the “Court of Directors” of the “East India” Company. This study focuses on the brief history of AIs and the list of All-India services and their controlling body.
All-India service: Overview and a brief history
AIS is a group of Government services in which the citizens of India get a chance to be posted as a grade A officer in the branch of IAS, IPS, or IFoS. It was first introduced in India by the British Government, and it was controlled then by the CoD of the East India Company. It was named as Covenanted “Civil Services” in the British era. In 1947, it was named as All-India Services (AIS). The ICS was replaced by the IAS in 1947. In addition to that, IP was replaced by IPS. Indian Forest Service (IFS) was formed in 1963, and it was put into operation in 1966. The key feature of AIS is that the members are being recruited through the centre as well as their services are being placed under various Cadres of state. It also states that members have liability to serve under state and center cadre. Central government has recently announced a policy which is based on the allocation of new cadres to ensure integration of bureaucracy as well as to ensure services of All India Character.
AIS: Segmentation
All-India services have been segmented into three different services. The first segmentation is the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The second Segmentation is the IPS, and the third Segmentation is the IFoS. The controlling body for IAS is the MoP and PGP. On the other hand, the controlling body for the Indian Police service (IPS) is the MoHP, and the controlling body for IFoS is the MoE.

IAS refers to the Indian Administrative Service who is trained in handling government affairs. Every civil servant is assigned a particular office who thus deals with matters of policy that pertains to that area. The policy matters are therefore framed, interpreted and modified in the office under the supervision of an Administrative officer who consults with the minister. IFS are responsible for management of forest in the country in order to sustain the environment. IPS refers to the police which are responsible to face any challenge which might include complicated and harsh conditions.
List of All-India service
The constitution of India provides in order to create AIS for the “Union” and the states. According to the All-India service act (1951), the central Government of India takes control over the recruitment process. Though, the recruitment in the various posts will be made for the state government and the union territories. It was also said that the recruitment will be done through a direct recruitment process which means the recruitment of the candidates will be done through various competitive exams. The recruitment in the IAS post is done in order to manage the internal Governmental affairs. The recruitment in the IFoS is made for the post of Forest Officers. In addition to that, recruitment in the police services is made through IPS. Therefore, the three main components of AIS are IAS, IPS, and IFoS.

The controlling body and the recruitment board need to be remembered from the Exam point of View. The history of AIS is important for the UPPSC Examination. It has been discussed that the controlling body for IAS is the MoP. The controlling body for IPS is the MoHA, and for IFoS it is the MoE. in addition to that, a detailed description of the eligibility criteria and the selection procedures for various posts of AIS is discussed above.
