CBI Academy

The full form of CBI is “Central Bureau of Investigation”. The organisation of CBI is the topmost institution of India for investigation purposes. The CBI is known as the “premier investigating agency of India”.

The organisation of CBI is the apex body of India in terms of investigating crime related matters as well as high profile cases of government and international level. The organisation was set up primarily to investigate government corruption related cases as well as investigate government related bribery cases. However in the year of 1965, the jurisdiction of the organisation of CBI was expanded. In this report, the structure of the CBI academy and its major responsibilities has been highlighted. The structure and main operations of the CBI Academy

CBI was initially developed in order to investigate governmental cases related to corruption and any types of bribery related affairs. But the responsibility and jurisdiction of this organisation was expanded in 1965. The CBI gets power to investigate any branches of laws related to the central government which are enforceable by the Indian government. . The organisation of CBI is found to act under the jurisdiction of “the ministry of personnel, public grievance and pension, government of India ”. “Multi-state organised crime” is probed under this organisation.The CBI derives its power from Delhi special police establishment act. International cases or multi agency cases are handled by the strong intervention of this organisation named CBI. The CBI agency has been known to look into several crimes related to the economy. Different cases related to corruption of the government are also inquired by the department of CBI. It can be noticed that the organisation CBI is completely exempted from the provision related to the “right to information act”. CBI is the organisation which is found to be designated by the Indian government as “single point of contact” due to the liaison with the apex internal crime related organisation INTERPOL. The main headquarters of this organisation INTERPOL is Lyon, France.  The headquarters of the organisation CBI is in CGO complex. 

A reputation has been established by the CBI agency as the “India’s foremost investigating agency” along with the resources due to the complicated cases. The organisation was requested by the Indian government to assist in the investigation of different crucial cases such as terroris, mureder and kidnapping. The apex judicial organisation of the country’s supreme court and different state courts are also found to assign cases to the CBI. However the cases related to crime can be given to the CBI if the aggrieved parties filed petitions for the same. In 1987, the organisation of CBI was divided into different divisions such as “the Anti-Corruption Division”, “the Economic Offences Division”, “the Special Crimes Division ”, “the Policy and International Police Cooperation Division ” and many more. In order to segregate different types of cases, these types of subdivision have been adopted within the structure of the CBI organisation. Administrative division is also a part of this division. “The Central Forensic Science Laboratory Division ” is another division of the CBI agency to look into matters related to forensic activities. D.P kohli was the founding director of the CBI and now presently, “Subodh kumer jaiswal” has been in the charge of CBI director.  The CBI has around 72 units in its 38 branches in different states and UT’s of India and these units are dealing with different cases related to cyber crime, economic offences, corruptions and special crimes and many more. 

CBI academy admission

In order to get admission in the CBI academy, the toughest exam of UPSC has to be cleared. In order to become an agent of the CBI department, one has to appear in the examination which is performed by the organisation UPSC. The exam taken by the UPSC is known as the “combined graduate examination”. The particular exam of UPSC was carried out once a year and it was due to the designation of “police sub inspector” at the “Central Investigation Bureau”. The eligibility which has been set for this particular examination is graduation with only 50% of marks.
