Marking scheme for WBCS exam

The West Bengal Public Service Commission announces WBCS exam details via a notification on its official website. There are important details regarding the WBPSC exam that candidates must know, including syllabus, exam pattern, marking scheme, etc. 

The exam is divided into three stages, i.e. Preliminary, Main, and Personal Interview. The initial two stages consist of different sub-papers and each of them carries different marks.

WBPSC Marking Scheme: Preliminary Exam 

The WBPSC Preliminary exam serves as a screening test for selecting candidates for the Main exam

Here are the important details about the marking scheme of the Preliminary exam : 

  • The WBCS Preliminary exam consists of eight different parts
  • The questions asked in the Preliminary exam are aimed to assess candidates’ general knowledge
  • The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  • Candidates will receive one mark for each correct answer. There will be a negative marking for each incorrect answer
  • The total duration of the Preliminary exam is 2.5 hours

WBPSC Marking Scheme: Main Exam

After qualifying for the Preliminary exam, candidates will be able to appear for the second stage of the WBCS exam, i.e. the Main exam

Here are the important details about the marking scheme of the Main exam : 

  • The Main exam consists of eight papers. Out of total papers, six papers are mandatory and one is an optional subject which is further divided into two parts
  • Out of six papers, four papers consist of objective-type questions, while the other two papers consist of descriptive-type questions
  • Each paper in the WBCS Main question paper is worth 200 marks 
  • The total duration of each paper in the WBCS Main exam is 3 hours 
  • There is negative marking for wrong answers

WBPSC: Personal Interview 

After qualifying the Main exam, candidates have to appear for a Personality Test.
