West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC)- Eligibility
Candidates who want to appear in West Bengal Civil Service Exam must meet the eligibility criteria set by the commission. The WBPSC eligibility criteria has factors such as nationality, age limit, language, and educational qualification.
Grouping of Services
There are several services and posts for which recruitment is made on the basis of results of WBPSC exam. The examination is divided into four categories – A, B, C, & D. Candidates can compete for more than one category, but they need to submit only one application that indicates the choice of group(s).

Group A
- West Bengal Civil Service (Executive)
- Assistant Commissioner of Revenue in the integrated West Bengal Revenue Service
- West Bengal Co-operative Service
- West Bengal Labour Service
- West Bengal Food and Supplies Service
- West Bengal Employment Service [Except the post of Employment Officer (Technical)]
Group B
- West Bengal Police Service (WBPS)
Group C
- Superintendent, District Correctional Home / Deputy Superintendent, Central Correctional Home
- Joint Block Development Officer
- Deputy Assistant Director of Consumer Affairs and Fair Business Practices
- West Bengal Junior Social Welfare Service
- West Bengal Subordinate Land Revenue Service, Grade-I
- Assistant Commercial Tax Officer
- Joint Registrar (West Bengal State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission under the Consumer Affairs
- Assistant Canal Revenue Officer (Irrigation)
- Chief Controller of Correctional Services
Group D
- Inspector of Co-operative Societies (ICoS)
- Panchayat Development Officer under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department
- Rehabilitation Officer under the Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Department

WBCS Exam- Nationality
- Candidates who wish to appear for the WBPCS exam must be Indian citizens
- It can be natural citizenship or acquired by registration
- The candidates need to furnish proof that their nationality is Indian
- Provided, he/she should have a certificate of eligibility that has been issued by the Government
- He/she will get admission to examination but he/she will get an appointment offer only after the Government issues a certificate of eligibility to him/her
- Candidates must be in excellent health, have a strong moral character, and be qualified in every way to serve as government employment
WBCS Exam- Age limit
The age limit depends upon the post that the candidate wants to apply for. They can identify the particular group that the preferred post belongs to and can apply accordingly.

Please note:
- Candidates who have recorded their age in Madhyamik or a certificate equivalent to it will be accepted
- This age criteria is applicable to all the applicants in Government service
A few categories are eligible for WBPSC exam age limit relaxation which is given below-

Please note: The OBC, ST and SC candidates who are applying from other states will be considered as general candidates.
WBPCS Exam- Language
- Applicants who want to appear for the WBCS exam should be able to read, write, and speak Bengali
- Applicants whose mother tongue is Nepali do not need to be fluent in Bengali
WBCS Exam- Educational qualifications
- Candidates must possess a degree from any recognized university
WBCS Exam- Special condition
For West Bengal Police Service
- The minimum height requirement for male candidates is 1.65 metres
- The minimum height requirement for female candidates is 1.50 metres
- Candidates who belong to races such as Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese tribals are subjected to height relaxation
- Candidates must put out their height measurements accurately if they want to apply for Group B services
For Assistant Canal Revenue Officer
- The applicants will be required to work in remote areas
- Several villages will be under their jurisdiction
- They will be required to visit Zilla and Tehsil offices
- They may have cycle as the only mode of travel and will be required to deal with general public
For West Bengal Junior Social Welfare Service
- For serving in homes for the dumb, deaf and/or blind should have a diploma or degree in the training of Dumb/deaf or/ and blind
- In case candidates does not have relevant degree or diploma then they have to undergo this training for teaching dumb, deaf and blind
- Male candidates cannot apply for the posts that are open for institutions for females and vice versa
For West Bengal Subordinate Land Revenue Service
- Candidates must be well versed in Bengali language (both spoken and written)
- Candidates who have Nepali as their mother tongue will be exempted from this requirement
- They will be required to clear a departmental examination in Bengali within two years of time frame
