Onshore Oil Fields of Western India

Oil fields are the regions where petroleum deposits are accumulated in large quantities. It is a pool of hydrocarbons that are trapped by impermeable rock.

In this modern era of industrialization, every country knows the importance of oil and gas fuel. The largest oil field in the world is located in Saudi Arabia and is the major producer of petroleum. The first production of oil was started in 1889 near Digboi in Assam. It was the very first oil field in India. Major oil industries did not show much curiosity in oil production in the geography of India since the market was not looking profitable. However, due to the major significance of oil in the economical and industrial development and defence sector, top priority was given to this sector. Soon a joint venture between the government of India and Burmah Oil Company established a company named Oil India Ltd. which sourced its oil from the fields of Moran and Naharkatiya.

Definition and Concept of Onshore Oil Field

The word “onshore” refers to the word mainland and the development of the oil field is also defined by the word “onshore”. Natural gas, oil or condensate fields that are almost under the land are carried out about such kinds of “oil fields”. “Onshore oil fields” can consist of several crude oil tanks for the storage of initial oil before processing. A buffer volume where oil can be delivered with the help of a tanker is also provided by “Onshore oil fields”.

Differences between Offshore and Onshore Oil Fields

In the “onshore oil fields” region, onshore drilling is done for the process of oil extraction. Onshore drilling has been done nearly over nearly the last 20 years in the “onshore oil fields”. There are a few basic differences between onshore and offshore “oil fields”.  The drilling process in “onshore oil fields” has been done deep in the surface of the Earth to reach the level of fossil fuel. On the other hand, offshore drilling is done underneath the seabed in the offshore “oil fields”. Along with the process of drilling to reach fossil fuel level equipment of these processes are also different from each other. Therefore, all of these make the whole process of “onshore oil fields” and “offshore oil fields” different from each other.

Largest Oil Fields in the World

Ghawar oil field

Ghawar oil field is situated in the southwest of Dhahran in Saudi Arabia. More than one-fourth of the total amount of oil reserves of Saudi Arabia is held by this “oil field”. This “oil field” is 40 km wide and nearly 280 km long.

Spraberry field

This “oil field” is located in the Permian Basin of West Texas in the US. This “oil field” is considered one of the largest “onshore oil fields” in the world.

Greater Burgan field

This “onshore oil field” can be seen in the desert of the south-eastern “geography” of Kuwait. This “oil field” is considered among the “largest oil fields in the world”.

Major Onshore Oil Fields of Western India

Gujarat

Valuable findings of oil which bear rock strata have been yielded by the “Oil and Natural Gas Commission ” nearly 15,360 sq km in the Gulf of Khambhat for over an era. The major oil belt extended from the start of Surat to the end of Amreli. The major production districts are Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Kachchh, Bharuch, Kheda, surat. More than 60 lakh tonnes of oil has been produced by Gujarat from 2002 to 2003. This accounted for more than 18% of the total produced oil of India. Ankleshwar, Kajol, Lunej, Kosamba are the significant “oil fields’ ‘ of this geography.

Rajasthan

Banner district of Rajasthan was discovered as one of the important and largest “onshore oil fields “in India in 2004. An area of nearly 5000 sq km has been covered by the “oil fields”. Over 35 million tons of oil were discovered by Rajeshwari and Sarswati in the year 2002.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it can be said that oil is the commodity that holds major importance in the entire world. When the crude oil is converted into petroleum it becomes a source of energy in vehicles, heating, planes, electricity, and asphalt. Apart from being a crucial source of energy, petroleum is also used in paints, plastic, tape and chemicals, and much more. In today’s modern era a country that holds the maximum source of oil fields is considered to be highly valuable and it can boost the economy. The global gas and oil production sector has achieved a large proportion of the international economy. Demand for the production of gas and oil has increased due to emerging economies. Demand for oil in India has been projected to report a double growth and it will reach 11 million of oil barrels by the year 2045.
