General intelligence and reasoning are defined as the ability of a person to perform mental tasks. General intelligence is generally the indication of any person’s good IQ. If a person has a higher IQ then he is intelligent. General intelligence is also termed the G-factor.
In 1904, Charles Spearman introduced the concept of general intelligence. According to him, the general intelligence of any person depends upon the following factors. These factors are quantitative reasoning, fluid reasoning, Visual-spatial processing, Knowledge, and working memory.
Easy ways to solve Non verbal series:-
The non verbal series contains the questions related to images, symbols and other notations. We need to solve the questions by analysing the images, and understand the relationship of the symbols. The non verbal reasoning contains questions on
1. Mirror images questions in which the image will be given to you which will be placed in front of the plane mirror you need to find out which image will be the mirror image of the given image.
What is the mirror image of the given figure?
The mirror image of the given figure will be the option b. When we use the plane mirror the image formed will be virtual and upright. The arrow at rightwards in the given figure will form at the same distance in the image looking leftwards.
2 .The second type of question will be of paper folding type in which the transparent paper will be folded one or two times and we need to find the image on the paper formed after folding.
What will be the resultant image if we fold the transparent paper from the dotted line.?
The correct option will be figure 4 because when the paper is folded then the half portion of the paper will come to the left side and will appear like the figure four.
3. Third type of questions are counting the figures in the image like they will give you the number of triangles in a figure you need to find out the total number of the triangles in the figure.
How many triangles are there in the above figure?
Solution:- We can see that there are a total of three triangles. The triangles are ABC,PQR and CDF noted in the given figure for better understanding.
The second question is to count the number of rectangles in the given figure.
Here the number of the rectangles is 9. You can see that the four rectangles are A ,B,C,D now the two triangles are AB and CD. Now the two triangles are AC and BD. Now the biggest triangle is formed by all four figures ABCD.
So the total number of the triangles are 4+2+2+1=9
4. Another type of question asked in the non verbal reasoning is pattern completion. In which the figure will be given to you. Now you need to choose the correct pattern which can be fit to the given figure.
In the above figure what is the correct option to complete the pattern of the given figure.
Here in the above figure the there are four squares are separated by the half distance and the diagonal is drawn in each half figure now the fourth blank figure will be option A because this square is divided into two halves and diagonal is drawn in both the parts this figure completes the pattern of the given figure.
Conclusion
In this article, we have learned about general intelligence and reasoning. It is the mental ability of any person. General intelligence and reasoning actually show spatial visualisation and quantitative reasoning. The non verbal reasoning is the one in which we need to find the answer of the questions by analysing the figures only.
