Face Value and Place Value of a Digit in a Numeral

The calculation of mathematics in the case of place value and face value has been discussed in the present study. Place value in mathematics is coined as the number if the arch digest exists in the number or any series of numbers. The value of the numbers or digits has depended on the place of the digit in the number or the series is the number which is termed as place value. In general terms, face value is used as the financial term which is used to identify the dollar or nominal value by its user. In mathematics, the face value is cited as the actual and accurate value of the digit in any number series of numbers.

Main body

Discussion and definition of place value

Place value is considered as the value of every digit which is in a number series. There are some examples by which the concept of place value has been clearly understood. The number 5 in the number 350 is a tree but the 5 ten or the number 50. The number 5 in 5006 represents the number 5 thousand or 5000. In the place value, each digit of the number has its value in the place depending on the place of existence in the series. The place value of any digit can be calculated with the help of this particular formula.

“Place Value of a digit = (face value of the digit) × (value of the place)” for n example if number 6 is considered as in ten places then the place value of the number 6 in 674 will be 6*10=60. There are various ways to find a place value of any digit in any series of numbers. The place value has to be found by identifying the number of places the digits are placed to the left or right if the decimal point is a number or series of numbers. If the place is considered as ‘n’ place to the left of the decimal point, then the digit has to be multiplied by 10 (n – 1) to know the value of the digit. Another example can also explain place value clearly.

Discussion on the concept of the face value

Face value is the simplest term in mathematics that determines the value of the digits. Face value is considered as the actual value detection of the number or digit in any series or number. The face value of numbers can be understood with the help of some examples. Find the number 567 can be taken then the face value of the number 6 is only 6. The face value is considered as the original number of any digit in the place of the number or series of numbers. In other terms, face value can be recognized as the definite and actual value of any number or digit in any series.

The face value can be explained as:  “The face value of 0 in a number is 0; the face value of 1 in a number is 1. The face value of 2 in a number is 2, the face value of 3 in a number is 3 and the face value of 4 in a number is 4. The face value of 5 in a number is 6; the face value of 7 in a number is 7. Face value of 8 in a number is 8, the face value of 9 in a number is 9”

Discussion on the difference between place value and face value

Differences help to understand the concept of place value and face value. Place value and face value are two important concepts of mathematics that help to understand the system of digits in the number series. The Place value is considered as the multiplication of the place if the digits with the digits where it is placed in the number are either hundreds or thousands. The face value is copied as the digits itself which categorizes the actual position of the particular digit in the number.

The example of the place value of 5 in 357 is 50 (5*10=50) whereas, the face value of 5 in 567 is 5. The place value of 3 in 357 is 300 (3*100=300) whereas the face value of 3 in 357 is 3. The value of 0 in both place value and face value is 0. Place value can be detected of a digit by multiplying it by the value of the position of the digit where it is placed. The face value of any digit remains always the same with the position of the existence in the number.

Discussion on the relevance of place value and face value in mathematics

Place value and face value is beneficial to understand the positions of the digits in the numbers or series. It helps to understand the positions of the digits in the series. It helps to understand the numerical calculation to the children. For example, the number 367 place value of 7 is 7, 6 is 60 and 3 is 300 so, 367= 300+60+7= Three hundreds + Sixty + Seven.

Conclusion

The concept and release of mathematics have been clearly understood with the help of the present study. The concept of face value has been clearly understood with the help of the present study. The concept of place value has been discussed in this present study. The differences between the face value and place value are briefly discussed in the present study.
