Age-Related Problems

Important mathematical formulas that help to identify the unknown age of a person or the age gap between two-person or the age ratio of two-person and so on.

The age-related problem in mathematics started in ancient times. The educational structure allows the students to learn the basic formulas to solve age-related mathematical problems. However, with time and up-gradation of classes, the problems become more complex and so do the problem-solving formulas. In the government exams, different types of age-related questions are asked in the written and aptitude exams. In this assignment, the discussion is based on the basic concept of age-related problems and the solving procedure. Some tricks and tips have also been provided in this assignment to solve the problem in an easy way.

Overview of Age-related problems

From an early age, the students have to learn to live in a world full of numbers to get used to it. Human beings are surrounded by numbers and one of the most important factors is different complex formulas that help the students to understand more complex problems in their higher education. At the very beginning of education, initially, it was taught to the students about some basic problem-solving techniques such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by using age-related questions. However, the problem-solving techniques become more complex with time and up-gradation in the higher classes. In the ninth grade, the students have to know the graphical presentation of two numbers. The ques may have two variables that are considered or related with X-axis and Y-axis. The student put the variables in the proper point and found the answer by using the graph.

Definition of Age-related problems

Age-related problems in mathematics are considered as one application of linear questions. Generally, the age of two different people or two different objects are taken and the comparison is done between the present age of two variables and the future or past age of them. To make the question more complex, fractions may be added. Using these two variants and the changing time, the question may be formed in such a way that the students have to know the graphical representation to solve the question. Identifying the unknown variable is the most important factor to determine the problem-solving technique that will help to find the unknown variable in an easy way.

Types of age-related problems

  • An age-related problem can be solved by using a normal formula of addition, where the answer may be presented in such a way, the current age of a person is ‘n’ and after five years the age of that person will be ‘n+5’. Following this strategy, simple problems can be done by using subtraction such as the age of the person was ‘n-5’ before 5 years, multiplication such as ‘the father is three times older than the son where the age of father represented as ‘n×3, and division, where the age of the father is considered as ‘n’ and the age of the son, is represented as ‘n÷3’.
  • The second type of age-related problem can be solved by graphical representation. Where the father of a girl is considered as x+26=y and x represent the age of that girl. After putting the different values of x, different values of y can be found. It can help to find the current age of that girl and the current age of his father depending on the time.
  • For understanding more complex problems of graduation, a master-level mathematics, integration, and differentiation process are used to solve the problems.

Application of age-related problem

The age-related problem is an arithmetical concept, which is vastly used in determining the age, with the help of averages, ratios. Additionally, it helps to know the age-based relationship of any respective problems. Following up, age-related problems are considered as an application of linear equations in terms of solving age problems. For instance, a comparison can be made of the age of two or three people or objects in present times and future times.

Conclusion

The West Bengal Education Board incorporates different age-related problems to teach the students about problem-solving techniques in a more realistic way. The age-related problems not only help the students to identify the exact factor but they also learn the graphical representation by using this technique. These problems are very common in every government-related job and the interviewer asks age-related problems to the candidate in the aptitude round to understand their analytical thinking capacity. Age-related problems can provide a real-life example to the students which helps them to think more realistically.
