Ayushman Bharat Yojna, also referred to as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna/ PMJAY, is a scheme which provides assistance in healthcare facilities to the economically weaker sections. It was formulated and came into existence on September 23, 2018, by Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi. Firstly, It was known as The Ayushman Bharat Yojna( National Health Protection Scheme). Later, it got its name changed to Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna. This scheme covers about fifty crore citizens of India. There are approximately 18, 059 hospitals enrolled, and over 4 crores of beneficiaries were admitted in September 2019.

The Aim of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna

The main aim of the scheme is to provide cashless secondary and tertiary healthcare services to the underprivileged and weaker sections. The Ayushman Bharat Yojna/Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna recipients are provided with an E-card which is used to avail of healthcare services at the enrolled public or private hospitals anywhere in the country. The entire process is cashless and the patients can get free treatment. The entire process gets coverage of pre-hospitalization for around three days and post hospitalisation for around fifteen days.

Ayushman Card

Candidates who are eligible to be a beneficiary of PMJAY benefits are eligible to apply for an E-card. This card is used as identification proof to receive healthcare benefits in the future. Ayushman cards can be issued after verification of the recipient’s identity available at the PMJAY self-service centre or kiosk. The card is issued and provided with identity documents such as Aadhaar card and ration card. An RSBY card, a PM letter, and a government-issued list of family members can all be used as proof of family membership. After the completed verification, a unique AB-PMJAY ID is printed with the e-card.

The process of receiving an Ayushman Card

One of the important aspects of the PMJAY Yojna is to obtain the Ayushman Card. This card contains a dedicated identification number that belongs to a family. AB-NHPM has provided the number to every recipient household to apply for the Ayushman card. As it is an online process, some steps to obtain an Ayushman card online are:

After visiting the official website of Ayushman Bharat Yojna, credentials are asked where the candidate is required to put in his/her email id and generate the password. Then, the Aadhar card number is asked to proceed further. After clicking on the approved recipient/beneficiary option, the candidate is directed to the help centre. Now the password is asked in the CSC section followed by a PIN directing to the home page. After that, a download option is visible to avail candidate’s Ayushman Card or Ayushman Bharat Golden Card.

Ayushman Bharat Registration

Firstly, a patient verification card is operated for the recipients. To generate the card, the patient is directed to the PMJAY kiosk. After understanding all the valid payments dealt with the PMJAY scheme, any existing diseases from the given doctors are confirmed.

After that, if the severity of the condition is severe, seek medical treatment or medicine prescriptions from a physician. A medical facility endorsed by an Empanelled Healthcare Provider (EHCP) or a public hospital should be consulted if hospitalisation is recommended. The hospital should provide a discharge certificate, bill, or invoice after your medical treatment is completed.

To avail of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, the essential paperwork required includes Age and identity proof, caste and income certificate, proof of family’s present status documents, and proper contact details; phone number, address, Email Id etc as they are the only source to contact the policy receivers.
