The principal scientific advisor of the government of India had earlier initiated a programme on ayurvedic biology, which was later relaunched by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). The responsibility of promoting the program has been assigned to a department that ensures the application of basic science in the investigation of procedures, products, and concepts related to Ayurveda and aids the growth of ayurvedic biology.

Top 10 Ayurvedic Startups

It is a well-known fact that Ayurveda originated in India. Maharshi Charaka, a saint from the ancient era, is the father of Ayurveda. Although India has numerous companies that manufacture ayurvedic products, such as Baidyanath, Dabur India Ltd, Hamdard Laboratories, Patanjali, Zandu Ayurveda, a lot of startups are also aiming to grow in the field. Below is a list of the top ten ayurvedic startups in India in the year 2022:

1. &Me

The Bangalore-based startup &Me provides “bio-active lifestyle beverages” (health drinks), particularly for women. These health drinks are enriched with multi-vitamins and multiple minerals and contain no preservatives or added sugar. They are entirely natural. The drink helps resolve the debate on Ayurveda vs. Modern food by blending Ayurveda with modern food science.

2. Aadar – Good Old Habits

Aadar is a Mumbai-based startup founded in the year 2018. The startup focuses on diseases and issues related to daily lifestyle, especially those concerning the male population. The products of Aadar are based on ayurvedic herbs and currently have a 20,000+ customer base.

3. Akiva Love

Akiva is a startup that provides ayurvedic shots and beverages. The target customer for the startup is the millennial generation and working youth of the urban population. The shot and beverages provide energetic refreshments available in multiple flavours. The startup was founded by a former IITian named Shalabh Gupta. It is aimed at approaching Ayurveda through a new set of eyes.

4. Durmeric

Durmeric is a Mumbai-based startup that provides nano-emulsified ayurvedic herbal extracts. Durmeric brands itself as one drop wellness and extracts the plant’s essence by soaking the herbs in water, vinegar, or alcohol. The startup was founded in 2020 by Balakrishna R., Mannar Mannan, and Vinod Puthen; and works as per the Ayush guidelines.

5. Gynoveda

Gynoveda helps women have optimum menstrual health. It was founded in 2018 by Aarati Patil, Rachana Gupta, and Vishal Gupta. The startup provides an AI-based period test and its diagnosis, and as per the customer’s health condition, provides recommendations. The startup aims to be one of its kind and helps women optimise their menstrual cycle with the help of Ayurveda by democratising and diversifying the problems.

6. Mea ame

The Delhi-based startup deals with the issue of smoking. Mea ame provides an alternative to old-fashioned cigarettes by replacing them with ayurvedic organic smoke. Organic smoke is a blend of natural herbs from the Himalayas. These smokes are 100% herbal and are non-toxic. The uniqueness of Mea ame’s idea has garnered a great response. The company has recorded a growth of 30% per annum.

7. Nirogam

Nirogam is an online-based startup that provides solutions to the most common health issues like diabetes, weight loss, and sexual health. Founded in 2009 by Puneet Aggarwal, this Faridabad-based startup aims to create a world free of ailments and has helped almost a million customers.

8. Nirog Street

Nirog street was founded in 2016 by Ram N. Kumar and Robin Jha. The startup bridges the gap between the customers and the ayurvedic market. It aims to empower the doctors to empower Ayurveda by building a community of doctors and practitioners working in Ayurveda.

9. Oziva

Oziva provides plant-based protein and nutrition. With a significant chunk of the population in India being vegetarian and vegan, Oziva focused on a basic need in the Indian market – plant-based protein and nutrients. The startup was founded in 2016 by Aarti Gill and Mihir Gadani to support every individual to have a quality lifestyle. The startup has grown a lot in the past few years and is often endorsed by famous celebrities.

10. Mama Earth

Mama earth is one of the most famous startups in India, founded with the intent to provide solutions to the parents regarding their babies and toddlers. The brand also creates personal care products and was founded by Ghazal Alagh and Varun Alagh in 2016. The startup is currently on the list of unicorn start-ups and is surely growing in its targeted market and beyond.

Ayush startup

To promote and strengthen the awareness and interest in the AYUSH system of medicine around the world, the government of India has launched a scheme known as ‘The Central Sector Scheme for promotion of International Co-operation in Ayush’. The Ayush system of medicine consists of,

  • Ayurveda,

  • Yoga,

  • Naturopathy,

  • Unani,

  • Siddha,

  • Sowa-Rigpa, and

  • Homoeopathy
