SSC MTS Eligibility Criteria
Staff Selection Commission or SSC conducts a competitive exam for recruitment of Multi Tasking Staff (MTS), a Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post in various Ministries/ Departments/ Offices of India in various States/ UTs. The governing body has established various guidelines related to the SSC MTS exam eligibility criteria. Candidates applying for the SSC MTS exam must meet the nationality, age, and educational requirements given below:
Nationality
A candidate must be either:
- a citizen of India
- a subject of Nepal
- a subject of Bhutan
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st of January, 1962, to permanently settle in India
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Ethiopia, Zambia, Zaire, Malawi, and Vietnam with an intention to permanently settle in India
- Candidates in the above categories must be someone who has a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India
- Candidates who require a certificate of eligibility may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of employment will only be made after the Government of India has issued them the necessary eligibility certificate
Age Limit
The age requirements for the recruitments rules of various user departments are listed below:
- Candidates must be between the age of 18 – 27 as on cut-off date
Upper age limit relaxations are permissible for the following categories:

- The Commission will accept the candidate’s date of birth as filled in the online application form and the same recorded on the Matriculation/ Secondary Examination Certificate to determine the age. No subsequent requests for change will be considered or granted
- Ex-servicemen who have already secured regular employment in the civil side under the government in Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts after taking advantage of the benefits given to ex-servicemen will not be eligible for reservation in the ESM category or fee concession. However, such candidates can obtain the benefit of ex-serviceman reservation for successive employment if, immediately after beginning civil employment, they provide a self-declaration/ undertaking to the concerned employer detailing the date-by-date details of application for various vacancies for which they had applied prior to beginning civil employment
- For the purposes of age relaxation, the period of “Call up Service” of an ex-serviceman in the Armed Forces will also be treated as service rendered in the Armed Forces
- Ex-servicemen of the three Armed Forces of the Union who wants to obtain reservation benefits must have already acquired the status of ex-serviceman at the time of submitting his application or be in a position to prove his acquired entitlement by documentary evidence from the competent authority that he would complete the specified term of engagement from the Armed Forces within the specified time frame. Such candidates must also obtain ex-serviceman status within a year of the application’s closing date
- Sons, daughters, and dependents of ex-servicemen are not eligible for age relaxation or ESM reservation. As a result, such candidates should not identify themselves as ex-servicemen
Education Qualifications
The education qualifications required to appear for the SSC MTS exam are given below:
- Candidates must have passed the matriculation exam or equivalent from a reputed board
- All the degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded through Open & Distance learning mode of education by the Universities recognized by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature, Institutions of National Importance declared under an Act of Parliament, and Institutions Deemed to be Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 will be automatically recognized for employment to posts under the Central Government if they have been approved by the Distance Education Bureau, University Grants Commission
- All candidates called for document verification will be required to produce original certificates such as mark sheets, provisional certificates, etc. for completion of matriculation or equivalent as proof of having obtained the minimum educational qualification on or before the cut-off date
- If candidates fail to submit these documents, their candidature will be cancelled by the Commission
- Candidates who can prove through documentary evidence that their qualifying examination results were declared on or before the cut-off date and that they were declared passed will be considered to have met the educational requirement
- At the time of Document Verification, candidates with equivalent educational qualifications must present a relevant Equivalence Certificate from the relevant authorities
- However, it will be up to the concerned User Departments/ Appointing Authorities to make the final decision on such candidates
