In accordance with the Home (C & E) Department’s Notification No. 16664-AR dated 2.9.1987, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) was established as a standalone, full-fledged Department in 1987. A Public Health Engineering Wing used to be part of the State Government’s Health & Family Welfare Department. According to the State Government’s Rules of Business, the Public Health Engineering Department manages the Water Supply & Sanitation Budget (major head 2215/4215) and implements water supply and sanitation service implementation programmes primarily through the Public Health Engineering Directorate, which is under its administrative control.

WBPHED Recruitment 2022- Eligibility Details
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of rural water supply in a government or semi-government organisation, public undertaking, designated area authority, PRI, or nagarpalika is required for a bachelor’s degree (full time) in civil or electrical engineering from any government-recognized college or university in India.
- Diploma engineers with ten (10) years of experience in the field of water supply and distribution systems in government, semi-government, public undertakings, notified area authorities, PRIs, and nagarpalika and a diploma in civil or electrical engineering from any government-recognized institution.
- Candidates with experience in the field of public health engineering will be given preference.
- For qualified candidates, experience requirements may be reduced.

- The salary for retiring West Bengal State Government Engineers would be Rs. 28,000/- per month or, if less, last pay less pension (-).
- For general candidates, Rs. 28,000 (just twenty eight thousand) monthly (consolidated);

On the specified date and time announced on the PHE Department’s website, www.wbphed.gov.in, shortlisted candidates will be invited for a walk-in interview at “Nijalaya”, Plot No. 8 in Block CN, Sector — V, Salt Lake City.
