NMDC Limited (previously National Mineral Development Authority) is a mineral producer controlled by the government. It is owned by the Ministry of Steel, Govt of India.
It explores for iron, copper, phosphorus, lime, dolomite, gypsum, clay, magnesite, diamonds, tin, tungsten, graphite, and other minerals.
It is India’s biggest iron ore producer & distributor, with three automated mines in Chhattisgarh & Karnataka generating over 35 million tons per iron ore. It also runs the country’s only mechanised diamond mine in Panna, Madhya Pradesh.
NMDC is now in the process of buying back its Nagarnar steel & iron plant as well as publicly listing the resulting firm by mid-2022.
