Recruitment to NHPC is done on the basis of the GATE examination and its scores. The candidates should have a valid GATE score if they want to get recruited in NHPC through the GATE exam. The eligible candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their GATE scores. After that, the qualified candidates will have to appear in the NHPC interview process. The final selection will be based on the performance of candidates in NHPC interviews and medical fitness tests. The National Hydroelectric Corporation (NHPC), a premium Schedule – A, ‘Mini Ratna’ business owned 70.95 per cent by the Government of India, is India’s largest hydropower firm and a forerunner in the design, building, and administration of hydropower units. NHPC has thus far authorized 22 hydropower projects, one wind power project, and one solar power project totalling 7071.2 MW, incorporating joint venture projects.
The NHPC is seeking the service of a retired Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent as a “Deputy Consultant (Security)” on a contract basis for one year.

Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must have retired as a Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent from the Indian Armed Forces/Central Armed Police Forces/Central Police Organisation/State Police (Pay Matrix Level 12/12A).
Age Limit
As of July 1, 2022, the age restriction for Deputy Consultant (Security) is 64 years.
Responsibilities
- Survey/Resurvey of NHPC and Joint Venture Projects/Power Stations located in UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for the deployment of security personnel in collaboration with the CISF/State Police/CRPF, etc.
- To undertake security reviews at NHPC and Joint Venture Projects/Power Stations in the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in order to evaluate security measures and provide recommendations to improve security.
- Security planning and interaction with top officials from the Indian government and state governments, the army, paramilitary forces such as the CISF, State Police, and the CRPF, and any other competent authority to handle security concerns related to the NHPC.
- Developing a security plan for projects/power plants in the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
- Suggestions for ensuring an efficient and effective security environment in the Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh UTs are requested.
- Propose cost-cutting security methods that do not jeopardize core security standards or security effectiveness.
Period of Contract
The contract will be for a one-year period, which can be extended by mutual agreement. Yet, at age 65, no more extensions will be given.
Remuneration
The aggregate monthly fee for the Deputy Consultant (Security) would be Rs.60,000/-.
Allowances and Facilities
- Reimbursement of mobile phone bills is limited to Rs. 944/- per month.
- A monthly transport allowance of Rs.5,000/- would be granted.
- NHPC’s Senior Manager (E-6) is entitled to TA/DA for outstation trips.
- NHPC would provide field hostel facilities in Jammu (if necessary) on a “pay as you go” basis.
- The Deputy Consultant (Security) will be supplied with no further benefits except remuneration, conveyance allowance, and mobile phone reimbursement.
Tax Deduction at Source
Before executing the payment, the Income Tax or any other tax, as applicable, will be deducted at the source, for which a TDS certificate will be supplied.
Leave
On a pro-rata basis, Deputy Consultants (Security) are entitled to eight (08) days of leave per calendar year. Zero pay will be granted to the Deputy Consultant for any time of absence that exceeds the permissible leave (Security). Unused leave cannot be carried over to the following year or redeemed.
Headquarters
The Deputy Consultant (Security) would be based at the NHPC Regional Office in Jammu. He shall effectively report to the Executive Director (Jammu) administratively and the Executive Director (Security), NHPC Limited, Corporate Office, Faridabad.
Office Time and Working Hours
The Deputy Consultant would be hired full-time. During contractual involvement with NHPC, the Deputy Consultant (Security) would be prohibited from accepting any other project. In an emergency, the Deputy Consultant (Security) may be called on Saturday/Sunday/other Gazetted Holidays for which no additional compensation would be granted.
Termination
The engagement will be temporary, and any party may cancel it by giving the other 15 days’ notice.
Conflict of Interest
The Deputy Consultant (Security) will not represent or advise anyone on any topic detrimental to the NHPC’s interests, nor will they engage in any activity outside the scope of the contractual assignment. This Department will not provide any benefits, pay, absorption, or regularisation to the Deputy Consultant (Security).
Confidentiality of Data and Documents
The office’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the data it collects and its outputs will be retained. Against the express written agreement of the office, no portion of the data, statistics, proceedings, or information obtained for the purpose of this assignment or during the course of the assignment for the office may be used, published, disclosed, or shared with a third party. Until the contract expires and the final payment is given by the office, the Deputy Consultant is required to send over the whole set of assignment records to the office.
NHPC will not be liable for any loss, accident, damage, or injury experienced by the Deputy Consultant as a result of his employment, including travel to and from office/project visits.

- Eligible applicants must apply online using the NHPC’s online registration system. To apply, go to www.nhpcindia.com and log in using a valid and active e-mail address. Follow all the instructions before filling out the online application form. After you submit it, the system will produce an individual Registration Number for you. NHPC. Candidates should have scanned copies of their certificates on hand in separate files ranging in size from 75 to 100 KB apiece under the heading “Steps for Applying” JPEG/PDF format, as well as a colour image and a signature in JPEG format larger than 23 KB and smaller than 15 KB, respectively.

Selection Process
- Candidates that match the qualifying requirements will be shortlisted based on the objective of their experience.
- Shortlisted candidates will be chosen in the end by an expert panel through a Personal Interview (PI).
- On proof of a ticket, outstation candidates (excluding those from Delhi/NCR) would be compensated for 1st class train fare to and from the address of communication or the actual location of travel, whichever is shorter.
