STATE-WISE LIST OF GOVERNORS OF INDIA

The key role of a Governor is to “protect”, “preserve” as well as “defend” law under “article 159” of the constitution to maintain government stability.

According to Article 154 of the Constitution of India, the Governors of the State is the constitutional head of the state, appointed by the President of the country for a time of five years. They are the appointed heads of the state governments and executive decisions of the state are taken and implemented under the governor’s name. Nevertheless, the governor is not in power to take decisions on their own and has to acknowledge and discuss the matters of State with the elected council of members led by the Chief Minister of the state. If compared, the responsibilities of a state governor are very similar to that of the President of the country. While the President has power over the entire nation and mostly takes suggestions from the cabinet of ministers led by the Prime Minister in the central government, the Governor does the same over a state and takes ideas from the state government.
