Although the United States is one of the most powerful countries on the continent, the most widely used currency on the continent is the East Caribbean Dollar, which is used in six out of the 23 countries on the North American continent.

The United States

The United States of America is by far the most well-known country on the planet. It is known for its tourist attractions like the Grand Canyon, technological innovations, and sports. It has left an indelible mark on global culture owing to its vastly popular film, television, and music industries. The country’s capital is Washington, D.C., and its currency is the US Dollar, which is one of the world’s most powerful currencies.

Mexico

Mexico is famous for its cuisine, and some of the world’s most visited beach resorts. Mexico City is the country’s capital and one of North America’s most important political, cultural, educational, and financial capitals. The Mexican Peso is the country’s official currency, denoted by the letters Mx$ or Mex$ and its code is MXN.

Canada

Canada is recognized for its rich culture, courteous people, maple syrup, poutine, and ice hockey, among other things. Furthermore, Canada is known across the world for its diverse fauna and magnificent natural beauty. Ottawa, the country’s capital, is a major commercial and transportation hub. The Canadian Dollar, abbreviated as Can$ or C$, is the country’s currency.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is known for its breathtaking national parks, where visitors may participate in adventure sports such as cave tubing, river rafting, canyoning, and zip-lining. San Jose, the country’s capital, is home to 333,980 people. The Costa Rican Colon, sometimes known as the Colon, is the country’s official currency.

Cuba

Cuba is well-known for its sugar cane rum, cigars, salsa and Cuban musical styles and dance genres. It is also recognised for its Spanish colonial architecture, the Buena Vista Social Club, the Cuban National Ballet, and Guantánamo Bay. Havana is the country’s largest and most populous city, while Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey are two other prominent cities. The country formerly had two official currencies, the Convertible Peso and the Cuban Peso. However, it was subsequently decided that monetary unification would begin on 1 January 2021, and the Convertible Peso would be phased out entirely. The Cuban Peso is now the only accepted currency in the country.

Eastern Caribbean Dollar

The Eastern Caribbean Dollar, abbreviated as EC$ (code: XCD), is the currency of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States’ (OECS) seven members and one associate member. Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are six independent states that use the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. Anguilla and Montserrat, the other two, are British Overseas Territories.

The total population of the EC$ region is around 613,000 people (2014 census and projections), which is equivalent to Montenegro or Washington, D.C. in the United States. The total GDP is $5.46 billion, which is close to Bermuda’s. The obverse of the coins and the banknotes both feature Queen Elizabeth II. Except for Dominica, Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state of all the EC$-using nations and territories.
