On his visit to the UAE, PM Shri Narendra Modi, invited by Mohammed bin Zayed Al, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s Deputy Commander of Armed Forces, had a clear vision of uniting both the countries to stand together to fight against terrorism. Addressing the multicultural societies of both countries, the two leaders agreed that coming together could help in terminating terrorism in the countries.
This visit allowed the two nations’ leaders to take stock of bilateral relations and assess progress in executing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement during Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed’s last visit to India in January 2017. All sides were pleased to sign several agreements and memorandums of understanding during the visit.
Focusing on the Main Reason For Terrorism
In light of the recent terror acts in the UAE, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s full sympathy for the UAE’s leadership, government, and people and expressed condolences to the UAE’s victims.
Both the leaders agreed that lack of diversity in religion leads to fanaticism, which is one of the important factors for the growth of terrorism. They also agreed that the use of force could not be the best medium to defeat it. So, they agreed to a complete combat strategy against the growing terrorism. As an initiative to this agreement, they invited the UAE-based Sawab centre to cooperate with the ongoing international counter-extremism.
The two leaders condemned extremism and terrorism in all of their shapes and expressions, regardless of who the offenders are or their intentions. They condemned efforts, notably by states, to use religion to justify, encourage, and sponsor terrorism against other countries or to utilise terrorism as a tool of state policy.
As part of their cyber security cooperation, India and the UAE agreed to share technological best practices in telecommunications and information technology to keep cyberspace safe and secure, and free of subversive and extremist ideology.
They also planned to remove all assistance for terrorists operating and conducting terrorism against other countries from their lands. The two leaders agreed that determined and serious efforts must be made to eliminate safe havens and sanctuaries that give terrorists and their operations a safe haven.
The two leaders emphasised the necessity of measures to sabotage and dismantle terrorist networks as well as their financing and movement in conformity with the Un charter’s applicable principles and goals and international law. The two sides agreed to keep working together in the United Nations to have India’s proposed international terrorism convention in its entirety adopted.
UAE’s joining hands with the G5 Sahel Force
The two sides reaffirmed their shared desire to collaborate in Sub-Saharan Africa in the spirit of South-South cooperation, capacity building, grants and loans, trade and technology collaboration, and joint projects to assist in the achievement of the SDGs are just a few examples. Sustainable Development Goals. The UAE praised India’s unwavering commitment to African peace and development, particularly its involvement in UN peacekeeping missions.
