Before becoming the chairman of UPSC, he has served as the chairman of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission and Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission.   • Arvind Saxena

Shri Arvind Saxena was appointed as the chairman of UPSC on May 8 2015 and he performed his duties as chairman till June 20, 2018. Before appointing as UPSC Chairman, he worked as the Director of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC). He also received an award for his Meritorious Services in the year 2005.

  • Vinay Mittal

Alka Sirohi was appointed as the chairman of UPSC on September 21, 2016, and she performed her duties as chairman till January 3, 2017. Before appointing as UPSC Chairman, she worked as the Secretary at the Department of Personnel and Training.

  • Deepak Gupta

Deepak Gupta was appointed as the chairman of UPSC on November 22, 2014, and he performed his duties as chairman till September 20, 2016. Before being appointed as UPSC Chairman, he worked as an IAS officer. He also worked in the Departments of Industrial Development, Education, Women, and Child Development.

  • Rajini Razdan

Rajini Razdan was appointed as the chairman of UPSC on August 16, 2014, and she performed her duties as chairman till November 21, 2014. Before appointing as UPSC Chairman, she worked as the IAS officer of Haryana cadre and secretary, department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. 

  • D.P. Agrawal

D.P. Agrawal was appointed as the chairman of UPSC on August 16, 2008, and he performed his duties as chairman till August 2014. Before appointing as UPSC Chairman, he was a member of UPSC.

  • Subir Dutta

What are the conditions to remove the UPSC chairman?

 According to Article 317, UPSC Chairman can be removed by the President before the completion of his or her term in case of the following mentioned circumstances:

  • The chairman of the commission goes insolvent (bankrupt).
  • The chairman is involved in any paid employment outside the domain of his or her official duties.
  • The chairman becomes mentally or physically incompetent to handle official duties.
  • For misbehaviour on the part of the chairman of UPSC.
