Statement and conclusion in reasoning is also a section that tests the candidate’s thinking capacity and analytical skills. It is very much similar to reasoning and data sufficiency problems that candidates also have to solve in most competitive exams. In statement and conclusion, students have to read the question given and assume that its related statements are true. From amongst the pair of conclusions that have been provided, the correct answer has to be chosen which would logically follow the statements given in the questions. Analytical Reasoning contains statement and conclusion problems. These are very crucial questions in competitive exams.
Statement and Conclusion
This is a part of analytical reasoning and candidates have to think critically to arrive at the correct answers. Now, the student just selects the more relevant and logical of the given conclusion that could follow the statement given. As an example,
Statement: An apple is good for an individual’s health.
Conclusions:
- Apples are a good way to keep someone healthy and fit
- Grapes are better than apples
- I is valid
- Either II or I can be valid
- II is valid
- None of them are valid
Solution: a. Only I. conclusion is valid because apple is indeed useful to keep someone healthy and fit and follows the logic of the statement given. However, the second statement is not the answer since grapes are not better than apples but have their benefits.
Statement and Conclusion Reasoning
Statement and Conclusion Reasoning is only questions involving statements and conclusions that are a part of the logical reasoning section. As discussed earlier, the statement and conclusion have a simple premise. There is a statement that is given and some conclusions. Now based on the logic of the statement the answer has to be chosen from the options which follow similar reasoning or logic to that of the statement. Statement and Conclusion are arguably the most scoring part of any competitive exam if students have practiced solving this kind of problem enough and are capable of answering critically. Statement and conclusion in reasoning is also a section that tests the candidate’s thinking capacity and analytical skills. Nothing outside the statement is true.
Statement and Conclusion Questions
Some statement and conclusion questions have been provided here for the benefit of the students.
- She will achieve success if she works hard.
- Working hard is how she will attain success
- Even if she does not work hard, she will achieve success
- I is correct
- II is correct
- Neither of the options is correct
Solution: a. Only I is true.
- If they study hard and continuously, then they can score good marks
- Focus is required to score good marks
- Meditation is required for attaining good marks
- I is correct
- II is correct
- Neither is correct
- Both are correct
Solution: c. neither is correct since it doesn’t follow the logic of the statement.
Importance of Statement and Conclusion
Statement and conclusion are important in exams because:
- They test the analytical skills of the students
- They promote critical thinking
- These test the presence of mind of the students
Conclusion
A thing to note in this section is that whether or not there is any validity of the statement in the real world, as a part of the statements and conclusions section, all statements are considered to be true and the right answer has to be made based on its logic.
