8 ACIDS, BASES AND SALTS

Acid is a substance with specific chemical components that allows it to turn into litmus when it is in touch with a water solution.

An acid can change its color when it is reacting with any metal form in order to liberate hydrogen. The reaction is basically formulated with its base of salt that can help it to promote acid catalysis, which have been defined as chemical reactions in regular terms. Hence, an acid can be defined as a hydrogen contained substance generating hydrogen protons to a different substance. This discussion has been further preceded with a brief explanation and definition of acid in terms of describing its core ideas, such as; what are the acid types, what are the elements of acid and more.

The definition of acid

Acid can be defined as the chemical substance neutralizing and dissolving with metal components having a fundamental corrosive taste of sour liquid. According to the definition of chemistry, acid is provided with the molecules denoting the protons in order to have a reaction of electron pairs in it. In terms of the acidic soil, it is required to have a pH level that is less than 7 as its containing properties. The denoting proton of acid has been defined as Bronsted-Lowry acid capable of forming a bond with the electron pair, which has been accounted as Lewis acid. An acidic substance has the potential of releasing hydrogen protons when reacted with any water solution.

What are the acid types?

Acid is formulated into different formations and chemical solutions that have made it distributed among multiple categories and types. Therefore, there are certain specific types of acids that can be enlisted in order to convey what the acid types are. Such as;

  •  Hydraulic acid
  •  Acetic acid
  •  Formic acid
  •  Sulphuric acid
  •  Phosphoric acid
  •  Nitric acid
  •  Citric acid
  •  Boric acid

What are the elements of acids

In order to describe what the elements of acid are, hydrogen can be highlighted as one of the most common elements of it. The elements are basically accounted as its standard number of protons that can be eligible to compound an acetic formation. In terms of this, there are certain specific elements that describe the acid and its molecule. These are sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, sodium, oxygen, fluorine, carbon, aluminum, and more.

Description behind the naming of acid

It has been defined that acids are basically named after their anion in terms of its composition of ions that are attached with the hydrogen.  When a binary acid is simplified with a simple reaction, the hydrogen is confined with only one ion inflicted upon it. Therefore, the name provided with acid is consistent with its hydrogen composition. This provides a better clarification that the prefix of hydrogen “hydro” and the suffix of “ic” is there to produce the name of acid consisting of oxygen in it.

Acidic properties

Acid is provided with certain properties that portray the exact traits and characteristics of acid. Such as;

  • An acid is supposed to have aqueous solution entangled with electrolytes. This composition is potential enough to allow the acid to generate electrical current in terms of conducting the provided chemical resolution.
  • Acid is supposed to have a sour taste.
  • When a substance is changing its color incorporated with water solution,  it indicates that it certainly has an acid base.
  • Acid is supposed to be reacted with activated metal that can further generate hydrogen gas.
  • Moreover, an acidic substance is compared to react when it is combined with its base product which enables its production level of salt and water.

Formulation of acid

Acid is provided with the fundamental elements of salt base that can only be in habitat to facilitate a better comprehension of water. These molecules are potential enough to generate positive electric find current when the water solution is compared to losing its hydrogen atom. Then it becomes a negative charge. These water particles can be found with hydronium ions is allowed to make acidic components.

Conclusion

The entire discussion is provided with the context of acid explaining each of its aspects that can help it to formulate its composition. In this precise format certain features such as what are the acid types and what are the elements of acid have been taken in account for further explanation.  In addition to that, the logic behind the name of acid has been described as well. Furthermore, it has been explained that there are multiple types of acid, which have been mentioned as well.
