Rani Laxmibai is the queen of the state Jhansi, present in Uttar Pradesh. She was a great freedom fighter. Jhansi queen is a well-known freedom fighter of India. Jhansi queen, born on 19 November 1835 in Varanasi. Earlier, her name was Manikarnika Tambe. Her nickname is Manu. Rani Laxmi bai’s father’s name was Moropant Tambe. Her mother’s name was Bhagirathi Sapre. Her mother passed away when she was 4. Rani Laxmi bai’s father was the Commander of War under Peshwa Baji Rao. The Jhansi queen used to get educated at residence. She could read and write. In her childhood days, she was very self-reliant to others. She also has expertise in martial arts. She is also good at many other things. She was known for her bravery. Besides studies, her other activities include horsemanship, fencing, shooting, and countering the artistic anticipations for females.
About Rani Laxmi Bai
- When Rani Laxmi Bai was seven years old in 1842, she married Gangadhar Rao.
- She was recognised as Laxmibai after her marriage.
- She gave birth to her son in 1851. His name was Damodar Rao. But unfortunately passed away after four months.
- Her husband, Gangadhar Rao, died in the year 1853. Before he passed away, he adopted his cousin’s son and named Damodar Rao.
- Earlier her name was Manikarnika, and she was born into the Maratha family.
- In the Hindu religion, her name was Laxmibai, the Goddess of money And Bai, in the Marathas’ customs and tradition, is the honourable title to represent the Maharani or Queen.
Freedom Struggle of Rani Laxmi Bai
The Jhansi queen played an essential role in the Freedom Battle against the British rulers. She is greatly known for her fearless quality and bravery.
This part comprises the major activities held against the Britishers. And how freedom fighters fought against them.
Revolt of 1857
- After the Maharaja died, Lord Dalhousie tried to capture the fort of Jhansi by devoting the Doctrine of Lapse.
- Then, Rani Laxmi Bai was questioned to leave the state of Jhansi.
- Then, in 1857 Revolt had busted out in the parts of Meerut.
- Rani Laxmi ruled over Jhansi for her minor son Damodar Rao.
- In 1858, Sir Hugh Rose ordered the British forces to visit Jhansi and capture the fort. He ordered the surrender of the city, or otherwise, his forces would demolish the city.
- Then, the British forces arrived in the city and tried to capture the fort of Jhansi.
- After this, the Jhansi queen Rani Laxmibai restricted and announced that we would fight for our freedom and independence. In other words, Lord Krishna stated, if we will achieve victory, enjoy their victory. If not conquered and massacred on the battlefield, definitely gain everlasting glory and salvation.”
- After two weeks long continuous battle, The Jhansi queen, her army of men and women fought bravely against the British rulers on the battlefield. Instead of fighting courageously, Jhansi failed in the battle.
- With her baby son on her back, Rani of Jhansi exited Kalpi on a horse.
- The Rani of Jhansi captured the fort of Gwalior with Tantya Tope and other revolutionary soldiers,
- After this, the Rani of Jhansi moved to Morar, present in Gwalior, to battle against the British rulers.
- Unfortunately, on 18 June 1858, Rani of Jhansi passed away in Gwalior at 23. When she passed away, Rani Laxmibai was dressed as a soldier.
- Rani Laxmi Bai was a very brave and prominent leader. She is very courageous. She laid down her life and died for freedom. She will always be recognised as a symbol of fearlessness, heroism and womanpower.
- Rani Laxmi Bai is the most dangerous leader out of all. She was the bravest out of all. She is greatly known for her cleverness and perseverance.
About the doctrine of Lapse
Rani Laxmi Bai’s husband adopted his nephew since the Britishers were not accepting the adopted son as legal heir of Gangadhar Rao.
According to Britishers, a king did not have any blood relation with the heir. Then, the British rulers take the whole administration and management of the state. The British rulers were not willing to accept the adopted kid. Due to this policy, The Britishers demanded the merger of the Jhansi state into the British Empire. On this, the Rani of Jhansi was not ready to accept the contract. Her only commitment was to defend the Jhansi.
The Rani of Jhansi defended Jhansi until her last breath.
She protected Jhansi courageously and fought for seven days. She fought with her arms. She tied Damodar Rao on her back and rode on a horse during the war. The Chieftains requested the queen of Jhansi to leave for Kalpi. With Tatya Tope and Nana Saheb, they conquered the fort of Gwalior. After a few days of fierce battle, she passed away on 18 June 1858.
