An increase in the temperature results in changes in both weather and climatic conditions. Climate and weather both are different terms. Climate is the long-term atmospheric conditions of any place, while the weather is the short-term climatic conditions of any place. The climate of any place can be described in terms of temperature. The overall aspects of any place depend on its climatic conditions, whether it is transport or agriculture. Although there are various reasons for what is causing climate change on earth. The change in temperature of the earth results in a temperature change.

Climate 

Climate can be demonstrated as the average weather of any place, which remains for a long period. The climate of any place describes the average temperature, average rainfall, and average seasonal conditions. There are various variables of what is causing climate change. For instance, precipitation, atmospheric pressure, wind flows, ocean currents, etc. It takes many decades to change the climate of any place.

Natural causes of climate change. 

Numerous natural phenomena result in a change in weather. These are: 

Continental drift 

The drifting in lands or sliding of lands results in the formation of continents. The continental drift is a million years back process. The continental drift results in the change in the position of the land, the position of oceans. The change in the position of oceans leads to a change in the water current, and a change in the position of land leads to the change in the flow of winds. It simultaneously results in the change of climate. 

Volcanic eruptions 

Volcanic eruptions are the major reason behind climate change in any place. When any volcano erupts, it releases large amounts of Sulphur dioxide, ash, water vapour, and other chemicals in the surrounding atmosphere. Although the Volcanic eruption is a short process, its impact remains for a long time. It converts the whole climate of that area from Hot to Cold. The dust particles and gases released during the eruption cover the whole atmosphere like a blanket. This restricts the entry of any sub rays, which consequently changes the climate of that place from hot to cold. 

Earth’s tilt

Earth is slightly tilted from its axis. Currently, it is tilted at an angle of 23.5°. But, if the tilt is high, it results in the hotter summers and colder winters. On the other hand, if the tilt is less, the summer will be less hot, and the winters will be colder. So, the angle of the axis to the orbital path of the earth also affects the climate. 

Human causes of climate change 

Greenhouse effect 

The greenhouse effect is demonstrated as the heating of the earth. In today’s world, the utilisation of fuels like petrol and diesel is increasing. When these fuels burn, they release harmful gases. These harmful gases are from a layer in the earth’s atmosphere, which work as a blanket. This blanket allows the entry of sun rays but restricts their exit. They trap the heat rays of the sun and make the earth warm. This results in the change of the climate of the earth. 

Deforestation 

Deforestation is described as the cutting of trees for personal and industrial uses. Trees play a major role in absorbing the carbon dioxide present on the earth. But, the uneven cutting of trees increases the amount of carbon dioxide on earth. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, making the earth hotter and warmer. Consequently, it changes the temperature of the earth. 

Types of climate 

There are five types of climate present on the earth. These are:

  • Tropical: hot and humid temperature 
  • Dry: hot temperature, less humidity 
  • Temperate: humid temperature 
  • Continental: very hot in summer and very hot in winters 
  • Polar: extremely cold climate

Climate is a major aspect of any area. The agriculture, wildlife, and atmospheric conditions of any place depend on the climate. The climate and weather both describe the season, but they both are different in terms of time. The weather remains up to 4 months, but the climate remains up to 10 years. The weather of any place changes fast, but the climate remains constant for a long time. There are many humans and natural factors that are causing climate change. But, in the current scenario, humans’ reasons are more global warming and deforestation, resulting in climate change.
