Three deepest Ocean

The write-up is based on the introduction, body that includes the three deepest Oceans in the world, conclusion, and FAQs.

The overall surface area of Earth is 510.1 million km2. Almost 70.9% of the earth is covered by water bodies like gulfs, rivers, oceans, lakes, streams, seas, and bodies of water. The water bodies which are the largest in the world are seas and oceans. Ocean consists of the maximum Earth’s hydrosphere. If the oceans are arranged in descending order the first-named ocean will be the Pacific Ocean, then followed by the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Southern Antarctic, and the Arctic Ocean. The deepest ocean in the world is the Pacific Ocean.

Details About the Three Deepest Oceans

The Pacific Ocean

It is the deepest ocean in the world which extends from 60° latitude towards the south and in the North Pacific Ocean reach out to the Arctic. The Pacific Ocean, which is the deepest ocean in the world, rests in the East between the continents of South America and North America and on the west between the continents of Australia and Asia. The Challenger Deep is the world’s deepest point in the ocean situated in the Pacific Ocean. Subduction is the reason for the utmost depths of the seas and oceans, Subduction means in the mantle of the Earth when one colliding tectonic plate goes down, this is the reason for the depth of the Pacific Ocean. 335.3 million km2 is covered alone by the oceans, i.e. Earth’s entire area’s 65%. Till now the Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean in the world. The average depth of the Pacific Ocean is 4,280 m or 14,042 ft and the maximum depth is about 10,911 m or 35,797 ft, the approximate surface area covered by the Pacific Ocean is 63,800,000 square miles or 165,250,000 square kilometers. About 46% of the water surface in the Earth is occupied by the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Ocean is divided into two portions because of the equator. As compared to the second-largest ocean, the Atlantic Ocean; the Pacific Ocean contains double water volume about 710,000,000 km3 or 170,000,000 cu mi and the area is also double that in comparison to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Atlantic Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest and second-deepest ocean in the world. The Atlantic Ocean covers almost the area of one-fifth of the total ocean in the globe. The approximate surface area covered by the Atlantic Ocean without the sea is 82,400,000 km2 and the volume of the Atlantic Ocean excluding the seas is 323,617,637 km3. The average depth of the Atlantic Ocean along with its adjacent seas is 10,932 ft or 3,332 m. The surface area of the Atlantic Ocean when the seas are included is 106,400,000 km2 and its volume is 354,700,000 km3. The Puerto Rico Trench is the deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean i.e. around 30,246 ft or 9,219 m. The Atlantic Ocean ranges from 2,848 km between Liberia and Brazil to 4,830 km connecting North America and the United States.

The Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is recognized as the world’s third-largest and third-deepest ocean in the world. The Indian Ocean covers the approximate surface area of 20% of the total water surface of the world. When the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea are included in the surface area of the Indian Ocean then it is approximately 28,400,000 sq. miles or 73,556,000 km2 and when the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea are excluded and it is in the tips of Australia and Africa then the area is approximately 6,200 miles or 10,000 km. The volume of the Indian Ocean is approximately 70,086,000 mi3 or 292,131,000 km3. 13002 ft or 3963 m is the average depth of the Indian Ocean and the maximum depth of the Indian Ocean is 24460 ft or 7455 m, the deepest point of the Indian Ocean is Sunda Deep. The boundary of the Indian Ocean includes Sunda Islands, Australia, and the Malay Peninsula in the east, Africa and the Arabian Peninsula in the west, southern Asia in the North, and the south Southern Ocean. The Indian Ocean is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the 20° east meridian and the Indian Ocean is separated from the Pacific Ocean by 146°49′ east meridian.

Conclusion

It is to conclude that the Pacific Ocean is the deepest ocean in the world which extends from 60° right-angled towards the south and in the North Pacific Ocean reaches out to the Arctic. . The Challenger Deep is the world’s deepest point in the ocean situated in the Pacific Ocean. The second-largest ocean in the world is the Atlantic Ocean and the third-largest ocean in the world is the Indian Ocean.
