  • The IMD also added that the decrease was part of natural multidecadal epochal variability of dry and wet epochs of all India rainfall. Average rainfall in India has mostly followed a downward trend since 1950, before recently improving in the last decade.
  • According to the World Bank’s Climate Change Knowledge Portal, the states including Bihar, Meghalaya, Nagaland, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, have significantly shown decreasing trends in southwest monsoon rainfall from 1989 to 2018. Decoding Monsoon Trends

The Monsoon trends of India are influenced by several factors. The mean rainfall was supposed to go up due to ever-increasing global warming and the emission of greenhouse gases. However, the aerosol emission from ACs and cars over the years in the 20th century has in turn decreased the pattern of rainfall in India. Gradual decrease in the human-induced aerosol emission in the atmosphere and the trend of increase in global warming is likely to affect the trends of rainfall once again and by the end of the 21st century, India is likely to expect an increase in mean rainfall. Measures have been undertaken to reduce air pollution thereby decreasing aerosol mixture that affects the seasonal rainfall in India over time. It would lead to an increase in the average heavy rainfall span in different regions of the country.

Conclusion

Monsoon is one of the most celebrated weather in India as India is mostly dependent on the agro-based economy therefore there is a significant impact on rainfall and the associated season in India. Over time with the influence of globalisation and romanticization of monsoon as a season, the latest monsoon fashion trends are witnessed to have an impact on the clothing industry and the relative business sector. Monsoon however has witnessed a decrease in major parts of the country, which has been contributed by the aerosol emission in the air. Measures are being undertaken to reduce pollution and resultant aerosol secretion thereby normalizing rainfall patterns by the late 21st century.
