It is the smallest country in Asia in both population and area. 

Japan

Japan is an East Asian Nation of Island country consisting of about 377,972 square kilometres and had around 126,672,000 people in 2017. Japan is situated in the Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of  the mainland of Asia. The islands of Japan are situated between the East China Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk to the south and the north, respectively.

The major islands of the world are quite a few biggest islands, and among them, there are many countries. 

  • Australia

Australia is considered an island because it is not connected to any other body of dry land but is generally considered a continental land. Among the seven continents, Australia is comprised of 2,969,976 sq miles and is the smallest among the seven, but when considered an island, it is the largest island.

  • Greenland

Greenland is about 836,330 sq miles or 2,166,086 sq kilometers. Greenland has the size three times of Texas. It is a region or a part of Denmark. Greenland is the world’s biggest or largest island located in the region of the North Atlantic Ocean. Greenland is recognised for its immense glaciers and vast tundra. Guuk is the capital of Greenland.

  • New Guinea

New Guinea is located west of the Pacific Ocean, north side of Australia. The Pacific Ocean surrounds new Guinea in the North, the Solomon and Bismarck’s seas situated in the east, Torres Strait and the Coral Sea to the South, and the Arafura Sea in the southwest.

  • Borneo

Borneo Island is located in the extreme southwest region of the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the biggest islands in the world. The island of Borneo is majorly covered in dense or thick rain forests. There are various fishes, insects, and birds present on this island. The Borneo island consists of endemic mammals: clouded leopard, probosci’s monkey, gibbons, elephants, and Sumatran rhinoceros.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are one of the major Islands in India, located in the  Bay of Bengal . These large groups of Islands were created due to the collision between the Burma Small Plate and Indian Plate, which is similar to the establishment or formation of the Himalayas.

Lakshadweep Islands

There are three types of islands present in the Arabian sea. 

Laccadive Islands: The Laccadive Islands comprise five primary islands Suheli Par, Pitti, Androth, Kavaratti, and Kalpeni.

Minicoy islands.

Amindivi Islands: The Amindivi Islands comprise Six primary islands, namely, Keltan, Chetlat, Kadmat, Perumal Par, Amini, and Bitra.

All these groups of three islands are called the Lakshadweep islands. The Lakshadweep Island comprise 25 small groups of islands.

New Moore Islands

The new Moore islands are small barren offshore Marine Terranes situated in the Bay of Bengal and are off the coast of the delta region of Ganges-Brahmaputra. The New Moore  Islands came into existence in the Bay of Bengal due to the Bhola cyclone in 1970. Although the New Moore Islands were generally barren land, and there were no stations or settlements in this region, both Bangladesh and India asserted sovereignty over it due to the supposition of natural gas and oil.
