Land under Forest in India

Forest is a very important agricultural industry and a prima environmental resource. Forest cover is a total geographical area stated as forest by the government.

India is among one of the ten most rich countries in the world. India and the other nine states collectively account for 67% of forest regions globally. Indian forest lives at 0.20% and only over 1990 to 2000.  The Global forest resource assessment of 2010 has grown at 0.7 % per year from 1000 to 2010. Forestry in India is more than just about fuel and wood. This article will tell me about forests,  land under forest in India, and the percentage of land under forest in India.

What is Land Under Forest?

Forest is also known as the overall terrestrial ecosystem of Earth, spread out around the globe.  The preponderance of the World forest is established in only five lands or countries, namely Canada, China, Brazil, the United States of America, and the Russian Federation. The largest share of forest worldwide is about  45% of tropical latitude, followed by temperature, subtropic domains, and temperature.

Forest land in India consists of 75% of the production of the primary gross of the Earth’s biosphere and contains about  80% of the planet Earth’s flora mass or biomass.

More than half of the forest land in the Indian area, about 49 % of it, is comparatively intact, while on the other hand, 9% has happened in pieces with zero or no connectivity.

The boreal coniferous and the equatorial tropical rainforest are the least disunited. On the other hand, the Temperature forest of oceans in the subtropical dryland forest is among the highest degree fragmented ones.

The forest cover in India

Below-mentioned is the list of the forest cover which are present in India:

  • Tree Density

Tree density is the limitation of how nearly the trees grow in hectares.

It is not the direct amount of trees in the forest but suffices as an estimation of the foresters.

The density of the tree Harijan should be mentioned by the Divisional Forest officers and the working plan officer(WPO). The tree density is the same as the crown density. The crown density of the forest area with more than 0.4 is considered a good forest region. The forest region with not more than or less than 0.4 tree concentration is considered a degenerated or degraded forest.

Constituents of Forests

Forest includes many constituents broadly divided into subcategories, namely abiotic and biotic. The biotic factor includes all the living things, including shrubs, grasses, vines, trees, algae, insects, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and the microorganisms dwelling on the soil, animals, and plants. In contrast, abiotic factors include all non-living things.

  • Layers

The forest consists of various layers. The primary layers of all percentage of land under forest in India of forest land in India types are known as the;

  • Forest floor
  • Canopy
  • The Understory
  • Emergent Layer

Conclusion

Forest can be defined as the presence of trees in a certain area. India is reckoned as one of the ten richest countries among the nine countries in the world. Together, the other nine countries and India account for 67% of the total forest land area in the world. A forest report of 2019 of the Indian state recently visualized an increase of  5,188 square kilometres of forest land and tree bedding across the country as analyzed by the ISFR 2017.

About 25% or one-fourth percent of India’s total land region is under tree cover and the forest region. Nevertheless, there is a long goal to be achieved as it would take a very long time or many a decade before India reaches its goal of having a total of 33 % of its total forest land covered area and tree cover.
